We finally made it by Shoo Mama's last night and had a wonderful meal.

Let me start by stating that this is in no way fine dining, but with that in mind that food was very good. It's simple, down home, southern style seafood.

We started with a dozen raw which were salty, cold, and delicious. My only comment would be that if two people are sharing you need to bring small plates.

For the main course I had the seafood platter with grilled fish, fried oysters, sauteed shrimps, sauteed scallops, and pan fried crab cakes with a loaded baked potato on the side and replaced the coleslaw with collard greens. I must say that any restaurant that will replace a side without a fuss always gains a point in my book. The food was prepared correctly and tasted fresh, the crab cake was especially good although serving it on a bed of lettuce is a little odd.

DS had the Rajun Cajun pasta which was chicken, shrimp, and andouille sausage with pasta, veggies, and a cream sauce. I'd like to say that the grilled rye bread was good, but I wasn't offered any of that.

Although the home made desserts sounded great we were just too stuffed for any, but we will definitely try them next time.

Good fish tacos

I wish the fish tacos were served with cabbage (traditional), but very tasty in their own way. Fried shrimp looked nice too. Good price point, dinner for two about 30.00.

We ate there last night and our meal was great! Lots of choices depending on your mood- seafood, burgers, pasta, salads.

We had the potato boats- real homemade potato skins, not Sysco, lots of cheese and bacon. I had the house salad with grilled chicken and green apple vinaigrette and it was perfect for a hot day, plus the grilled chicken was so good it could have stood on it's own. Bdarg had the Caesar, but I didn't get a taste as it was all gone. Kate had the kid's grilled chicken- same yummy chicken as mine (and she finished it of for lunch today), and JohnR had an impressive looking burger with lots of toppings and sweet potato soup that was so fantastic but more like a dessert. Topped it off with Kate's choice of key lime pie made like I love it- thick, buttery, very firm and almost crunchy graham cracker crust and not too tart filling. Yup, all gone.

Went home and went to bed.

Thanks, maybe we can make it to Shoo Mama's before it's a "formerly known as". It sounds divine.

This noon Betty and I stopped into Shoo Mama's after her weekly chemotherapy as we didn't feel like cooking lunch. She had blackened grouper with a vegetable medley and I had the potato boat with seafood filling. Both meals were outstanding! Also, our waiter, Joe, was as good as servers get. It is definitely a place to which I will return.

I went the other night...
I had the blackened tripple tail with cheese grits and an Asian slaw they subbed. I thought the slaw would be cold, but it was sauteed vegetables, but tasty. The grits were good, the fish was a bit over cooked, but still flavorful.
The service was great (I ate at the bar) and I had the key lime pie (could not resist!) Jenny, you are so right...it was WONDERFUL!!! The crust reminded me of my Mom's home made crust....actually the whole slice reminded me of my Mom's, who has been making Key Lime pie for 50+ years!!! I still miss the meringue topping, but I know it does not hold up very well and tends to "weep".

We went last week for lunch and after waiting a little too long, decided that it would be the last time. Then we tasted the food. Blackened chicken sandwich, grouper sandwich and burger were all fantastic. Plus, out waiter Matt has got to be one of the nicest guys that I've met. We will give them a pass on the long wait and definitely be back.

I agree- was there with a friend, the house salad is great, the chicken on my friend's sandwich she let me try a bite of was so well seasoned I asked for an a la carte breast to go along with my already generous lunch. Great job, gentleman!

Took some visitors down to Shoo Mamas yesterday evening. Everyone loved the food... Right down to the mac-n-cheese one of the girls wanted. Crab cakes, ragin' cajun pasta, shrimp boat, all was excellent!! Thanks Shoo Mamas. You've clinched a spot in SoWal! :D

They get my vote for best fish taco. Fish and salsa all fresh and crispy and crunchy, unlike many local fish tacos that have too much of a dressing or junk, making them slimey.

Those of y'all who know about Abe Drinkin's amazing fish tacos should go have these- Shoo Mama's will satisfy those of us who insist on fish taco excellence!
