Love the "100 Things Diners Shouldn't Do" thread. What about the things local chefs should realize the average SoWal visitor doesn't understand on the menu or at the restaurant?
BTW, if you see yourself as a "foodie", this thread should either amuse or offend you - here's hoping so!
1. Don't call something "haricot verts" on the menu...when the Sysco can they came out of says "green beans" on the label...
2. Don't say "EVOO" on the menu...the average guest has no clue what those initials stand for...despite Rachael Ray saying it much too often...

awesome thread Beach Bimmer Dude.
I wish the chef would state whether the french fries are real or fake.

Toots, that's perfect, you inspired another one!
3. Don't call something "pommes frites" on the menu...when the Sam's Club bag you poured them from says "french fries"...
Skunky
4-If DNA testing would reveal nothing other than genus Tilapia, then for God's sake, don't assume we are all rubes and try to pass it off as grouper, flounder, snapper or any other fish that actually has some flavor to it!
beats on hood
5. If you charge $5 or more for a salad, offer more than something that looks like it came out of a bag from Publix.

No frozen seafood EVER! You see that blue thing, it's called the Gulf and it is full of fresh seafood.

Never say or spell "chipolte" or "****ake" .... those words are chipotle and shiitake.

Menus full of typos very bad!
Ditto servers who don't know what a featured ingredient in a dish is. If you are going to get funky (which I like), make sure everyone can say it, spell it, and describe it.
And don't call it the "soup of the day" when you have been serving it for more than 3 weeks in a row.
