I'm kind of bummed out. I heard from someone that works at the 3-Thirty-1 that it and the SeaBar are closing for good in November and the land was sold, or in the process of being sold, to the state for the road expansion. Anyone heard anything about this?

Nothing official that I can see, but it's just a matter of time for the 331. The only question is when.
However, I'm no expert, but I would think that the Seabar is far enough from the right-of-way to survive.
Guess it's up to the owner...

I'll be there when the walls go down.
Right now they can leave me in while they take 'em down.

I love the restaurant, but I have never liked its proximity to a major US highway. Ever tried to cross the road on foot there? It's like playing Russian roulette. So this may be a blessing in disguise. Just a matter of time before someone was hurt or killed by some maniac doing 80 coming off the bridge.
I hope Oli can find another place on the bay in a quieter, safer spot. There are not enough bayfront dining spots around, IMO. There is somethingn about the tranquility of the bay that really lends itself to a good dining experience.

It's a relatively old building that Oli bought, what maybe? 4 years back.

Not good news for those of us who enjoy Cafe Thirty A and 331. I thought 331 was fairly new?
Did I miss something? Is Cafe 30-A closing as well?

I'm sorta feeling that way too.

331 & Seabar will be closing due to the construction on the roads & bridge. I know, it SUCKS!!! I love both places. But there is some talk of moving 331 because of the way it is constructed, allows for movablity. I know the owners are looking for land, but the bay was just perfect. But this one is out of their hands.

Sorry, I misread the earlier email. Cafe Thirty-A was not said to be closing -- it was 331 and Seabar. My mistake and I'm glad it's not true. This is how rumors get started, but at least on a message board you can see how the rumor started! My apologies.

Welcome to my world. Being a native down here, my heart has broken over and over and over as places change and people come and go.
For example, this is how I feel about the Seagrove Village Market. Not only is it good food...but I stood behind that cash register many an hour as a teenager and young adult a couple of decades ago. Back then, one could work and play.

If Cafe 30-A closed my date would starve. Whew! Glad that's not happening (yet).

This is a major bummer! Hope I can get one last trip in before it closes.

Every summer is the last summer. ;-)
There are no funds for the 331 bridge, but it will move forward somehow (bonds and tolls). The State says it has to be totally elevated from bank to bank with no causeway as it is now. So 2 new spans with 2 lanes each are needed. I don't know if they will remove the current causeway which would add even more expense.
I guess acquiring right of way could still happen even before funds are in place for construction.

Removing the causeway would be a REAL bummer. My grandfather was the captain of the dredge that dug the canal and pumped the fill, and that's how my mommy came to Point Washington and met my daddy. Not to mention, nearly 50 years later, my husband and I became engaged while fishing at the causeway.
Oh, and everybody else wouldn't have a place to lauch boats or buy shrimp from the boats or fish...

I do feel like I've heard that many times. And that the Red Bar is closing. Blah blah blah.
