Just A Simple Local Cafe

30A needs a simple short order cook type cafe that opens early and stays open late.No "speciality" foods, just plain cookin'.There is a cafe in Mexico Beach named Sharon's cafe-a local joint that has simple ,but great food.Nothing fancy, but stays crowded year round. If the food and service are good and prices reasonable people would stand in line.

We looked through the window of that diner, the booths are pristine! It is beautiful inside all things considered. We have often thought about what it would take to get it moved, up and running.

I go to Marie's for good, inexpensive food made to order.

My local "diner" places to relax and enjoy good food at a reasonable price?
Marie's
Don Pedros
Coram's (back beach road PCB)
Donut Hole
Seagrove Market Cafe
98 BBQ

Also, Great Southern Cafe offers a very good lunch with fresh side veggies. Absolutely loved the oyster po boy, the burger was exceptional and the bbq sandwich terrific!!! Best fried okra EVER!

The really, really budget place is Coram's - and its just a little up the road but is truly a diner!

I agree with Teresa, there really are a bunch of diners around here. You just have to have a native to remind you.

Is Flip Flops gone for good?

There's diner food then there's diner food. I love a short order grill. Coram's is the only one I know of. Two can eat for $10 for dinner special plus drinks.

As far as open early and open late SoWal does not have the labor for it. Most places have trouble doing 2 meals a day. Not enough business or staff in the off season and too much competition for staff in the summer.

Marie's is an excellent choice. It's a mom and pop place and they work hard to please god bless 'em.

Is Flip Flops gone for good?

WHAT? I haven't been down there since July. Is Flip Flops closed? Best burger and (the House) chili dog, plus, it's a short bike ride from where we stay in SGB. I haven't heard anything about Flip Flops lately. Did they close for the off-season?

Flip-Flops is definitely open for business! My favorite burgers now that Shoo Mama's is gone (next favorite is Red Bar).

Teresa, I agree. Great Southern is our go-to place. Yes, there are some fancy things on the menu, but there are simple, less expensive items on the menu too. Love the veggies.

Okay, I've waited for some one to mention us but Seacrest Sundries is open year around and we have breakfast from 7 til 3 in the off season, serving breakfast sandwiches and homemade biscuits & gravy. Lunch time we have made to order sandwiches (roast beef, ham, turkey, pimento cheese, chicken salad and ruebens) with french fries (regular, cajon or sweet potato).
We're inexpensive and very casual. "No shirt, no shoes, no problem....you're at the Beach!

I'm sure your sandwiches are great but you sound more like a deli than a diner.

What's the diff? Some tasty grease.

It ain't a diner unless you have a griddle and a hamburger steak, and a sloppy cheeseburger.

I agree Dawn, love the idea someone posted about the silver diner at the hardware store. All the ideas posted have been wonderful and some of the places we have tried and the others suggested we will try,but none are really that "simple short order cook" kind of place. the kind of place that is a "greasy spoon" and where the waitress calls everyone honey or darlin'.

Folks, you can order anything you like from Seacrest Sundries. We'll try to meet any request you make. We're not a deli, we have our restaurant area that's open all day, for folks to come in and relax. We'll fix you a big ol' greasy burger or maybe a nice sloppy Rueben with kraut and dressing dripping off onto your shirt. Or how about a big ol' Nathan's hot dog with kraut or chili and cheese. Chilie and cheese fries that'll make you forget that diet you were on.
Maybe you want to start your day with a plate of biscuits and homemade sausage gravy, Yep, it's homemade, right here in our kitchen.
Try us once, you'll never know until you try!

Sounds like what some folks are looking for is effectively a Waffle House.

All sound good. I would be excited for a greasy diner in the are. We drive down to Hwy 79 for our breakfast fix at a place called Emma's Two. Go south on Hwy 79 and it's at the end, on the rigth hand side, across from the beach. Haven't had a burger but they look great. The snowbirds pack in so you know it's good and inexpensive and they have fried catfish anyway you want it either cooked in cornmeal, flour or a mixture! Their hashbrowns put the WH to shame. And the quality of their bacon and country ham is far superior. But one closer to 30A would be a wonderful thing to happen. Good luck.

Where's your favorite place for a quick, inexpensive lunch?

Teresa has named some good places but I have to believe there are more places to get something to eat that isn't "fine dining" or "eclectic fare." While that is good eats some of the time, most of the time people just want good food -- fresh vegetables like red beans and rice with a big ole slice of cornbread; meat loaf with mashed taters and turnip greens; a hunky burger with grilled onions, pickles and all the trimmings with sweet potato fries. I don't know why restauranteurs think it has to be fancy or complicated to be good.
Where are the other good places to eat? Where can a poor working girl go for lunch or dinner without taking out a loan?
