Is State not appealing electioneering ruling bad for the public?

New posts
I'm not terribly surprised. It seems to me that the state of Florida is run as though there are no actual citizens - just a large number of special interest groups that jockey for position.

This is obvious from our lack of consumer protection, the general diffidence of our elected officials, the way elections are run, the manner in which the legislature decides how to spend money and the tax structure. It seems to me that the state is operated as though all property owners live somewhere else, and are only concerned about the commercial viability of their investment.

The TampaBay.com website had an editorial over the weekend titled "Lack of Outrage"; even after the grand jury who indicted Sansom also "indicted" the budgeting process that allowed him to increase the funding for NWFSC from 1 to 26 million with no oversight, the members of the legislature do not seem to understand why this is a problem.

Yes but a law that allows someone to be arrested for discussing elections is not the answer. If they had started enforcing that thing, half of sowal would have been taken down and most of us served with cease and desist letters. If they are going to try to control free speech from special interest and corporations then they need to more narrowly define who can no longer speak freely.

Are you saying that the existing electioneering law called for that? Was someone actually arrested?

I guy in central Florida was prosecuted. He started working against a state attorney and his first sentence for not putting "paid political advertisement" on some flyers he did was 14 years. They appealed, it was reduced to 1 count and sent back to be resentenced which could have been one year, then the law was thrown out.
