Concealed weapon permits in Walton County

New posts
If you have guns, you must periodically go to a gun range for practice. Shooting a gun isn't as easy as it seems on TV. There is kickback, so you must have a strong stance when shooting. I'm old school from back when kids played cowboys/cowgirls and "Indians" with popguns. Shooting a real gun is not like shooting a popgun.

There is more than 1 gun per citizen in this country. What could you conclude about a society that covets guns in such numbers? Do we need armed guards in our schools with armed moms, dads, and babysitters picking up our future gun owners at schools? At what point do you begin to think it through and wonder if the great motivator here is fear? Fear of your neighbor, fear of the stranger, fear of those different than you, fear of what might happen, fear of those you disagree with, fear that you don't have enough firepower, fear that your guns will be taken, fear that all hell will break loose.....fill in the blank. I believe the answers are ugly.

What do you think about people who obsess about crap that obviously means nothing in the grand scheme of things?:creepy:

Maybe what you are both saying can be said more simply: all we have to fear is fear itself. At first, this adage sounds trite, but it is really profound. Like Skunkape said, before the glut of 24hourcablenews, events like Newtown happened once. With the advent of media saturation, punditry proliferation, and ratings wars, these events seem to happen over and over again for weeks. Being vigilant and prepared is one thing, but succumbing to irrational fears is really what is the major problem in this country. A massacre happens in a school in New England, and because of NRA brainwashing, sales of assault rifles spike... insanity...

At the risk of being soundly excoriated on the forum here's one that brings a smile to my face. The only thing she did wrong was miss with that sixth shot.

Hooray for responsible gun owners!

I'm always amazed that most fail to realize that gun control only results in responsible gun owners having a more difficult time buying firearms. The bad guys won't get slowed down a bit......because they're bad guys.

I think you get where I am coming from. We are so easily manipulated by an out of control media, advocacy groups, politicians and peddlers of hysteria that we lose perspective-case in point the assertion made above that violence/shootings, etc are on the rise. It just isn't true, and now we have both the pro and anti-gun groups profiting from all the hysteria. Meanwhile, truly important issues are ignored. I highly suggest anyone who is interested in this sort of thing purchase this book-once you read it you will be inoculated against the fear peddlers. The book is an easy read and is available used for less than $5 on Amazon. http://www.audible.com/pd?asin=B002...mkwid=titles&gclid=CPirqMCb1LQCFQu0nQodRmgAhA

Agreed, hysteria is part of the problem when it comes to gun buyers purchasing assault weapons in case they are banned or more difficult to purchase. As a violent crime victim right here in Sowal, I will remain responsibly prepared to defend myself and my loved ones with a revolver. Sandyhook is a quiet town like ours and it shows bad things happen everywhere. My neighborhood has had 2 armed fugitives, no one harmed thankfully, other than the fugitives. During those episodes when the neighborhood was in lockdown, I was happy to have locks on my doors, large dogs and relieved to have a weapon.

https://www.ncjrs.gov/pdffiles1/nij/210346.pdf One in 6 women are sexually assaulted in the US. I think it is more since many assaults are not reported. Men are raped and much less likely to report it so statistics are difficult to figure. This is not hysteria, these are studied facts. Sandyhook is an over-the-top evil act and it scared people, even though the likihood of this happening in Sowal is slim, it prompted people to act. We live in a sick society and there is a war on women, people being shoot en mass in public places, robberies, home invasions car jacking, etc....Some of the the above atrocities are happening right here, just watch the local news. Having self protection is not hysteria.

That theme was Oliver Stone's intent with Natural Born Killers.

lots of irrational fear going on all over it seems - on all sides of the issue. I do believe gun control should be very strict. You should have to earn that weapon and be completely prepared to handle it and mainly to keep it out of children's hands. I don't care if criminals get guns easily - that is another issue. To legally possess a gun of any kind is a huge responsibility and should require every kind of test and application and requirement possible.

None so far. My temper and anger do not reach levels where my gun is a consideration. I've had a background check and I hope to GOD that had I come up questionable, I'd been denied. It appears that you have those issues of anger and control and maybe harming yourself or someone else. Please do so with rope, knife, drugs or a car and let the rest of us live!
