Honestly, in general I don't see the charm and friendliness as anything other than superficial, and the grit is definitely not there as you can see by the widespread inability to do what is necessary to beat the pandemic. Their superficiality masks a deep rooted nastiness, pettiness, and prejudice. I said in general because I do meet plenty of southerners who meet your criteria, but it's probably only about 20%. I've met very few people from other parts of the country who are jealous of the lifestyle. I learned to really like it, because those 20%, who usual lean slightly left, are in fact some of the coolest people I've ever known.
