Mr. Ibd and I are thinking of purchasing a gaming system for the family as well as little IBD for Christmas. Wow there are ALOT of choices. I have no idea what to get since the last system I had was an original Atari - seriously.
I want something that has plenty to choose from for all ages AND will not be obsolete in 5 years.

Dargs? Beachmom? I know yall have these at your house, whaddayathink???

Pros? Cons? I would love to hear some SoWal expert advice.....

The Nintendo Wii will be the mainstay for quite a few years. You can never go wrong with Nintendo for younger children. The Wii plays Nintendo Gamecube games, as well as the capability to download classic games online. I wouldn't go any other way.:D AND it won't cost an arm and a leg.

The only problem is...finding one.

We bought a Wii a few weeks ago for our son for Xmas. We couldn't find one anywhere. But Game Stop told us to call there every day at 3pm to see if they had a new shipment that day. We were assured we'd have one within a week. 2 days later I called, they had one, and we hopped in the car to go get it. They won't hold one for you. This might still work.

Seriously, Atari and Intellevision are pretty much the pinnacle of video gaming in my book. Atari football is a classic!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Besides, if that fancy pants Madden thing is so great, why can't you throw a pass the entire length of the field while steering the ball?

My daughter has always been a Nintendo kid while my son was more Playstation/XboX. I can tell you that the Nintendo is a more reliable system and the games are more diverse. I got mine after spending a night in BestBuy parking lot in the cold rain in December last year on release night. It was worth every bit of it. We as a family have had more fun with that system than I thought imaginable. But be warned...after a night of Wii bowling you will be sore.. its not like sitting on the couch playing a video game.. LOL

The closest one to us is in the Walmart plaza in Destin. Lots of nice young pierced guys that work there that are very knowledgeable about game systems and games. Near the AT&T cell phone place. There's probably on in PC too. There are 2 in FWB.

I can also let you know that the truck that brings in the Wii & other hard to find games for BBUY usually comes in on a Wednesday about 11AM... (dont ask... long story... pre-"night in the parking lot") hehe

Reading this thread makes me thankful that we already have a Wii. (where is the relieved smilie?)

But on that note- we have absolutely NO idea what to get Darg Vader for Christmas. He is now at the age where the smaller the gift box, the more expensive the gift. I like big stuff under the tree, like bikes, Playmobile, etc.

Skunky you can buy an Atari at target ($20 maybe) and it has a bunch of games programmed in it. It is pretty funn.

But I am hooked on the Wii. I love bowling and golf. This week I have been hooked on Guitar Hero, I am thinking of joining a band

Wii!!!!! Wi  ours! We gave my in-laws one as an early Christmas gift. Now when we call, they are too busy playing Wii to talk to us! :funn: So it's kind of like a double gift. Bless their little hearts.

for all the other Wii owners and potential Wii owners ..make sure you check out the wiihave a problem site for examples of just HOW MUCH fun you can have.. We have only lost the cover to a surround sound speaker and have a fist sized hole in one wall... so I think we have done pretty good! LOL

Hubba says cuz it all depends on the real life stats of the players you have on your team. SIL 's his xbox 360. There was a glitch when it first came out last year or so, but Best Buys exchanged it. He recommends the upgraded 120 gb not the 60 gb. :D He just likes the graphics better.

I hope nobody has to pay grossly inflated Ebay prices for a game system. Nothing is worth getting ripped off like that. Ebay is for finding bargains, not paying 100% more than an item's purchase price.

I got a Wii this morning at Best Buy in Destin. I just walked in and there were 4 sitting on the shelf. By the time I left the store, they were gone. Apparently, they got a shipment of 30 last night--and by 10:45 a.m., they were gone.
