I think I have the skills to build me a house.

Whose backyard has parking and a place to plug it in? Or do you think they'll let me park it at one of the beach accesses?

Sell it now, because it will be worth less tommorrow. Are you trying to flip it? Didn't the Realtor explain to you the risks? It won't appraise, and how can you get insurance? What if you try to park it on wetalnds? Is it built to code? Did you get a 30 year fixed rate? Are you the end user? What did the home sell for before? Why did they sell it? Hurricanes are coming and the beach is eroded and private. You"ll need a seawall, an engineer, an attorney and a minister. Why don't you rent, and what about the Save Our Homes mess? Beware of everyone and have a nice day.

You cain't scare me, Mr. Real Estate Man! If I told you the history of my house and how I came to own it, you'd think I was the luckiest dad-gummed woman in the world.

One of the funniest things I've seen on here in a long time.

This will probably border on too much personal info on the board, but it is a happy story:

I live in a great little 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom house on 1.08 acres.

Sell it now, because it will be worth less tomorrow.
It is worth 146% of what I paid for it in 1999. In 1999, it was worth 166% of what it was worth in 1991. In other words, the value has more than doubled (and darn near tripled) in 16 years.
Are you trying to flip it?
No, but I sure as heck could. If I were to retrofit central heat/air (at a cost of $3,000-$5,000) I would probably add $10-$15K to the price. I even think I could sell it with the market being so soft because it's affordable.
Didn't the Realtor explain to you the risks? What did the home sell for before? Why did they sell it?
What Realtor? I bought it from my brother, who bought it from my mother, who inherited it from my grandparents, who bought it from the builder before it was finished in 1956.
It won't appraise, and how can you get insurance?
What if you try to park it on wetlands? Hurricanes are coming and the beach is eroded and private. You"ll need a seawall, an engineer, an attorney and a minister.
I've had it appraised twice, and the appraisers always love it. Insurance is pretty good on it, but I don't live in Florida...
Is it built to code?
Somehow I doubt it, but I'm slowly upgrading.
Did you get a 30 year fixed rate?
You don't want to know! I'm a broke entrepreneur/college student!
Are you the end user?
Not sure what that is, but a lot of smart-alecky answers come to mind!
Why don't you rent...?
I rented it for 5 years from my brother, and he put all those rent payments toward equity. Pretty cool.

All told, it's a happy real estate story. My mortgage is a heck of a lot cheaper than I would have to pay in rent around here, and I have a solid oak house with lots of character. I have a well, so there's no water bill. I don't need A/C, so my electric bill during the heat wave was less than $60/month. I have gas heaters in individual rooms, so my heating bills are not much, either. This little place is darned near perfect.
