I've heard mention in the Editorial pages of the Walton Sun and numerous mention on Sowal about 2 houses in Inlet Beach area that were built taller than the DO allowed. I thought I knew that area o.k. Does anybody have an exact location of those homes that were to tall???

Thanks for the info. SJ told me to check the BCC minutes, which is where I found Villas at Inlet Beach for cross referencing. Thanks Again.

I built two tall houses in Inlet Beach and don't remember seeing any taller. I pushed the limit to get the max. view. I read about two tall homes out there and never knew where they were. Inlet Beach is pretty small.

There has been quite a bit of talk about those 2 homes in the paper, et al.
SJ told me to check the BCC minutes and there was a decent amount of finger pointing and expert testimony on Record.

It's always good to get the blessing of Planning and Zoning prior to obtaining your building permit. It doesn't cost us anything but a couple extra project days to submit plans and elevations for County Planning and Zoning review and comment.

The neighborhood that is the subject of this thread must have worked a little to close to LUK's neck of the woods. Follow the paper trail and you will eventually find your answers.

The developer knew that he submitted house plans for two and three-story plans, plus parking on ground floor with no habitable area, because that is what the Planning Dept has on file. Instead of building to the plans submitted to the County, they somehow got confused and ordered materials and built and extra floor on each of the houses (???), making the homes a three-story and a four-story, sitting above the parking level, which puts the elevation of the top floor way up in the sky, five stories above ground. Oops! (a case of asking forgiveness rather than permission. "Surely, if we get caught, the County wouldn't make us tear down the house."

Smiles, I posted that down here in SW FL they would condemn the place. Hell, Lee Cty shut down a $5M beach home for 22" over when the home met the City of Bonita code interp. Did they just say "Oh well"? :yikes:

I hear you, but Walton County has turned their heads in the past, so this is a fairly new direction for the County.

A change of that magnitude is going to be hard to resolve easily. Do you know if they violated the County max. height limit of 50' or was there something especially restrictive for the DO?

Not only did they violate the County Max Height Limit, but they also submitted plans VERY different from what they built, an obvious violation.

It's a clear case of the "It's better to ask forgiveness than to ask permission" clause.
