A peak in REO's hitting the market is clearly still ahead of us, right now we're looking at a peak sometime around July or August, but that depends on where this peaks. 2010 may end up being "the year of the REO" for Walton County real estate.

Nice chart. It has been quite overwhelming to see so many days when there are 17, 18 or 19 Lis Pendens filed in the same day.
Did you read about Orlando Taking the #1 spot on the list for most residential vacancies in a metro? Interesting stat. 10 Highest Homeowner Vacancy Rates - Slideshows - CNBC.com

Is there a way to chart how many of the lis pendens are for properties owned by realtors? Developers? Mortgage brokers (for those that still exist)?

That would sure be tedious. A person would have to physically track the ownership of each and then have personal knowledge of all the variables you named.
We can certainly recognize many of the names as they post. It is a tough time for most people in the businesses you listed.

I think this country would not have been in this mess if more parents in the 60s-70s had read their kids the bedtime story about the ants and the grasshopper. IF alot of the real estate developers, realtors, et. al. had just stached away 10% of their profits from 2001-2005 they would have plenty of cash to make their payments now.
Planning for hard times should be part of everyones long-term plans. Unfortunately, the Queen of our ant bed is Obama and he's going to feed all the silly grasshoppers. Back to work, ants!!!

Man, talk about a blast from the past. Wasn't that also animated at some point?

Oh, look...it's from the Great Depression! The last time people learned a lesson about buying tons of a sure thing on margin. Perhaps we should start requiring more economic history in our schools.

An alarming number of graduating HS seniors cannot locate South America on a map. I doubt that they will comprehend how constrictive monetary policy caused the Great Depression.
Besides teachers are too busy filling out their NCLB paperwork for the feds.

The graduating HS seniors don't need to locate South America or comprehend the Great Depression...but it would be most helpful if they knew how to make and save money; balance a checkbook; and that credit cards ≠ free money.

i thought my grandparents were silly by never putting a cent in the stock market. They lost out on millions by keeping their cash in 4-5% CD's; they earned a steady return and did not have any big reductions. They learned the lessons of the great depression. My parent fortunately raised us during the early 80's recession and had $200,000 in debt financed at 15%, the going rate at the time. I complained about Buy-Rite canned soup, sodas, and BoBo brand shoes. But they were definitely ants the whole time, barely making payments some months and paying down principal when there was any money to spare.
These lessons were not only taught at bedtime stories, but in daily practice. There are families who are losing their homes, but still buy their kid a $30 Abercrombie T-shirt that they could get for $5 at Old Navy. Or who buy "organic" food for their children at 2 times the cost. Why should they worry when the government will support policies that will forgive their debts and then send them extra cash in the mail. Don't bet on the market rebounding soon. Until Americans go through some real pain, this mindset will not change. They will call for more government intervention and we are on our way to Communism.
See you guys in Singapore or New Zealand in a few years, now rated the freeest economies in the world!!!

Yes, I missed the point to some extent.
But the people in the US don't get that they are wrong. Many feel like the world does owe them a living and will not admit they are wrong.
They need some degree of suffering. My folks were less generous than the ants in my bedtime story. They let the grasshopper freeze to death.

The grasshopper is everyone in this crazy consumer debt driven country. The ants are fictitious, they are the product of a near-death hallucination. You think you're inside the ant hill playing your fiddle, but in reality you’re still outside freezing to death.

Obama is definitely running around handing out free towels to a select few, but it's not going to help. 😀
