If you go to qpublic.net/walton, the vacant lot just to the west of the house where 395 dead-ends was bought in 7/2010 by some Texans for $3.2M. The two empty lots just to the west of that were bought by an LLC (also from Austin) in 7/2010 for $3.2M each. (The property where the V is was bought by the same LLC, DST Development LLC.) The beachfront house just to the west of that was bought by an LLC in Destin for $1.3M.
I guess that's why parking is allowed on those lots because the same people who own the V own the beachfront lots across the street.
Is there construction going on or a rezoning sign? We haven't been there since June 19.

There are two lots owned by the same group. The plan is to build 2 low houses in a retro Florida style to match the hotel somewhat and preserve the view from its rooms and rooftop pool and deck.

Cool! I love the mid-century modern look like that.

That does sound really cool.

Darn, was hoping for some parking and a large deck for people to watch sunsets/mingle while waiting for a table.

I believe the concept is to leave a wide area in between the two houses that would be a deck of some sort. A gathering area for patrons of the V.

 Zoning?
Good question mark and shrugs all around. As long as they didn't sell anything there, and just allowed people to hang-out, I'm not sure it would present a problem.

I believe a beach walkover/deck area is well within a typical residential zoning useage - look at all the neighborhood walkovers Seaside has. Those are not zoned commercial, they are just common areas owned by the HOAs.

Those 2 gulf-front homes/lots were sold for $3.2 million combined, if I correctly recall. I'm not sure if they still have the designs posted, but not too long ago, they were posted across the street at V.

I wondered why they paid so much more than the buyers of the house and lot to the west paid. It wasn't clear to me on qpublic that it was a combined purchase.
