It is a culture of fear brought to you by GOP. They have not only sold their soul they have decided that radicalization of their right wing politics is the only option for the party. That word radicalization is a dangerous word and I do not use it lightly but I get a lot of their propaganda and I am very concerned about where we are headed as a country. I honestly thought many would relax now that Trump is gone. But they are not relaxed and what I have seen and heard is very disturbing. Actually it is disgusting. This is a country of hate and Joe Biden is not going to be able to fix it most likely. As always I believe that all of us must participate in civilized conversations because the hatred between the left and right politics is growing and neither side is willing to listen anymore. Our democracy will not survive if we continue on this path. This 2nd amendment issue is how the GOP will build it's power back. Voter suppression is just their plan B. Immigration is their plan C. So the ABC's ofhow to gain back power is not necessarily to win elections but to dismiss the elections and radicalize their base. I believe that shame and blame politics and conversations only serve to make this problem worse and will actually give them more of a chance to win elections. If we the people do not find a way to communicate our democracy is over because neither side will accept elections. We are right here at a crossroads between democracy and authoritarian power.

Our supreme court has interpreted the 2nd amendment the same way more than a few times. Our citizenry has a right to own guns and therefore that right is not going to change. So can we effect these mass shootings with more regulation of guns? That is what we should be researching, debating and talking about. Of course I believe that we should regulate or ban assault weapons but without a better understanding of the mental elements of mass shootings then it will always be a part of society. Each mass shooting usually leads back to a white male who has been rejected or dismissed by society is some form. Of course not all white males have that mental inability to handle rejection but how do we decide who is a risk? Guess who has always owned all the power in all societies from the beginning of time? In each case there are indicators of behavior that suggest risk. As a society we are going to have to determine that risk and keep weapons of mass shootings out of their possession. I do not believe in extreme positions on this issue but I do believe that we have to give a lot more effort in stopping these mass shootings and it will take a lot of money to regulate this risk to society. We should ban assault weapons and place even more tax on gun purchases. Yes it has a ring of infringement on our Constitutional rights but in the end life comes down to accepting that we humans are flawed and we have to manage those flaws with laws...

I agree with President Biden! He is a reasonable man who understands consequences of doing nothing...

The reason is because speech is a means of communication, and the the Internet is just a medium. Media is just a method of delivering a message. So far as I can tell, the fundamental nature of messages has not changed since the beginning of time. Speech cannot hurt anyone unless it incites physical violence or is libelous. We have laws to deal with that. Otherwise, it's "sticks and stones". On the other hand, a firearm is more than just a method of delivering a projectile capable of devastating injury. Unlike the message/medium, the fundamental nature of the projectile/firearm has changed dramatically since the time our constitution was written. Furthermore, projectiles shot from a firearm are capable of inflicting real injury directly. Your comparison is either naive, or deliberately deceptive.

My thoughts are that both words and guns hurt people. Did we not learn that from Donald Trump? The legislative branch is split on these issues. The executive branch flip flops on these issues. So that leaves us with the judicial branch which has gone a far as interpreting money to be free speech. I believe in both the 1st and 2nd Amendment. That said guns have changed a lot since the Constitution was written and we have to regulate fully automatic and maybe some semi automatic weapons. On the other hand words have not changed but the way they are distributed (delivered) has changed. There now seems to be a very fragile line between propaganda, the "news" and social media. When propaganda showed up in social media we got ourselves a new problem with words. We can simply turn off the news or not click on the social media but that seems to be very hard for humans to do. I think we have to take each problem as a case by case and regulate those that use propaganda to radicalize. Common sense is the only way to balance out the extreme positions on all matters of our Constitution.

Because of his position of power, I put Donald Trump's words in the category of incitement. I still have a hard time analogizing a means of communication with a class of firearm even though perhaps the Internet has amplified the intensity of dangerous inciteful rhetoric.

From what I gather, not too many serious gun enthusiasts would be caught dead using a bump stock.
