Anyone see the American Idol auditions last night from Minnesota. These auditions are hilarious. Saw a few hopefuls last night but a lot of embarrassing auditions also. Tonight they are going to be in Seattle. Simon claims Seattle had the worst auditions of all the cities. Memphis will be on next week. :clap_1:

And the 3 maroons (Simon, Paula, and Randy) weren't around to ruin it all.
I might even have enjoyed that, AI carmudgeon that I am.

Trust me to overlook the obvious. I thought they were all so much funn to listen to because they didn't have the TV cameras on them.

You guys are missing the boat or de plane:rolling: whatever, Sanjaya wore his hair like the singer in No Doubt, who wore the same hair style as a tribute. Last night he was it was a tribute for Sammy Davis, down to bad suit and slicked back hair.
FYI, Phil now has the Military vote behind him. I don't think he is going anywhere soon. I think Haley should have gone before Gina. I think Gina stood out, also daring to be different as does Sanjaya. I thought she sang her best last last night.
I've heard Sanjaya's downloads are at the top of the idols. So, someone is buying them!

I think a slightly younger fan base - I'm sure it's the High School Musical bunch! He IS getting played on the radio. A group of Fanjayas have been calling the radio stations to download it and play it!

Do you think Tony really had the flu? I wonder how easy it was to get Michael to step in at the last minute?

Download and play what? His performances from the show? Has he already recorded something we don't know about it? :idontno:

OK, at this point I'm convinced that it's not the fan votes he's getting but the Howard Stern-related/anti-AI votes. I'm assuming those votes are outweighing the "real" votes. Anyone?

You mean this, from Slate?

Sanjaya Malakar. The "Idol Nation" has been thrown into disarray by the continued success of 17-year-old Sanjaya Malakar, whose undeniably bad singing and stage presence are trumped only by his oft-changing hairstyles. A Web site called "Vote for the Worst" encourages watchers to keep Malakar on the show for sheer entertainment value, and Howard Stern has gotten behind the plan as well. "By promoting Mr. Malakar, Mr. Stern says, he hopes to turn the talent competition into a farce and destroy its popularity," Edward Wyatt notes in the New York Times. (This Saturday Night Live spoof probably didn't hurt.) But another theory holds that Malakar is inspiring Indian solidarity (he is half-Indian and half-Italian); as Salon remarks, "Call it the Yao Ming NBA All-Star Top Vote Getter Syndrome." But Richard Roeper, writing in the Chicago Sun-Times, shrugs off the controversy, commenting, "t's not as if Sanjaya would be the first winner on American Idol who wasn't the most talented contestant."?D.S.

Hadn't read it there, but I saw the Howard Stern story all over the news, and he seemingly had generated a lot of support for his "cause." Just seems like something has to account for it, though I guess voting Indians and teens could equal about a gazillion votes. :idontno:

I am completely and utterly in agreement with you on this one!!!!! AND, I also think they are doing it to Haley. She is for sure not as bad as Sanjaya, but come on Gina was so much better than her. IMHO.

Do you know why Howard Stern has his panties in a wad over AI? What's with that?

It's probably just a way for him to prove that he still has influence, even though his show is now only available on satellite.

Can't you see this trick? Sanjaya is behind this scheme. Every time someone signs the petition, a vote is cast FOR Sanjaya. He is sneaky like that -- a boy with many disguises.;-)

Someone I work with called and voted for him 25 times because of Howard Stern. I said it's because they're kindred souls: neither deserves the fame they have.

I think he's an attention whore. Idol is one of top 10 shows on TV. So what better way to jump on the band wagon and spin some of the attention, to put himself in the slimelight. :puke:

Taylor Hicks was the VFTW choice last year and the same thing happened. I don't believe VFTW made him win. Anybody with time on their hands to deliberately vote for the worst based upon what Howard Stern says or VFTW for that matter, it just wrong, educated or not!
I know they are not the only voters and only AI knows the actual vote numbers. I do believe that the teenagers who are voting 300-500 times a night, are the ones pushing him into the higher vote getter!

You can go to www.americanidol.com and go to downloads, click preview and hear the songs for free. You have to purchase to get the download and this is where Sanjaya is leading, having nothing to do with Howard Stern or vftw. It is based on someone actually buying them - Now if Howard is buying the downloads, that's a different story. I doubt it. The cost is only 99 cents and that is what the teenagers are doing! If you listen to Sanjaya on the downloads, he is great! I think they must record them in a studio and not live obviously, but it goes back to my original point. He is marketable, that's why he is the leader!

I beg your pardon, but Taylor Hicks was NOT on the VFTW website last year.

From their site:

"Another week of Sanjaya, and this is great, because Sanjaya is now tied with Scott Savol and Kellie Pickler for longest running VFTW American Idol pick"

Just thought I would clarify that. I think I could think of alot of other things I would be spending my hard earned money on if I was those teens. Seems like such a waste to me. IMHO.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was restraining myself. And if Kellie was in the vftw she has done pretty well for herself!

Excuse me while I eat crow. I didn't read the whole article. Taylor WAS on their list. At least he could sing!!!!!

The article.

American Idol 5 ended up being one of the worst seasons of American Idol ever! We started off the season by supporting the hilarious Brenna Gethers, loveable Bobby Bennett, and strange face-making David Radford. Next, we set our sights on Chicken Little, Mr. Kevin Covais, in the last round of the semifinals. Kevin miraculously made it into the top 12 with our help, and then he sailed through to the top 11 with his hysterical performance of "Part Time Lover". Buzz for the website grew again, as news outlets around the country blamed VFTW for Kevin's seemingly impossible stay in the competition. The following week, Kevin was voted out and VFTW set its sights on the untalented Kellie Pickler. Her ridiculously dumb sayings and naive act were perfect for our cause. Kellie progressively got worse each week, singing subpar versions of "Suds in the Bucket" and "Walking After Midnight." Then, Kellie had the b alls to go all out and make VFTW proud with her slutty rendition of "Bohemian Rhapsody." Not content to stop there, Kellie then butchered "Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered" and "Unchained Melody," all the while making stupid comments about spinach salads and ballsies. She was unchained from the competition in the top 6 and VFTW set its sights on the wacky Taylor Hicks. With his wacky wardrobe, crazy facial tics and spasms, and his hate for Simon Cowell, we knew that Taylor was perfect for the cause. That week, he gave VFTW a shoutout by singing "Play That Funky Music" and spasming around the stage. In the top 4, Chris Daughtry, who many people thought would win, was miraculously voted out of the competition in another hysterical moment reminiscent of Scott Savol and Constantine. It was a gigantic VFTW victory that helped our man sail to the next round. The following week, each constestant received almost 1/3 of the votes, showing that VFTW's votes may have been what kept Taylor safe that week. With the Soul Patrol and VFTW behind Taylor, there was no way he would lose in the end. He ended up winning the entire competition.

I kinda messed up SM. Look up!!!!! I knew you would be upset my the fact that Taylor was on their list. Now, we both know that is not why he won!!!!!!!
