I am sorry you are sad Mama!! But, you know she will come back to the place she loves so much, and the mama she loves. What a great opportunity for her to travel though. We are here for you.

We are sad to see her leave, too, but at the same time, I am excited for getting to explore. She will like SanFran and come back even smarter from what she will learn on her journey. We are just selfish. You are probably just experiencing Motherly Instinct, trying to protect your beautiful daughter. She will be just fine. She is a smart girl, and doesn't get into trouble. Encourage her to grow, and let her know that you love her. Watch her blossom.

I am very happy for her too! She is just my special Joy Joy! I named her right! Precious cargo! I don't know when or if I will get to go but will try.

I am so happy for her opportunity. I know how sad it is for one to move far away. For me it is odd that I want my child to grow up and be independent, just not far away from home. The good part is .....wonderful trips out west with the best tour guide.:clap_1:

Congratulations to Steeleing3. And Steele Mama, I can only imagine (my kids are still home but it's only a matter of a few years). I think that's why they call these moments "bittersweet" -- but the sweet far outweighs the bitter (and that's what we remind our achy breaky little hearts).

It is very hard to have a child move far away. My son moved to Las Vegas for a lifetime career opportunity. It is tough to be so far away but we talk every day even if it is for only a couple of minutes. I know what you are going through and it is tough but they need to be able to grow on their own. At this point we can only offer support and love.

Steele Mama, be a happy mama. I firmly believe that every young person could use a year in California. It's an essential rite of passage! The worse thing you have to think about is the time difference. When I lived in Palo Alto (many moons ago ) my mother always called me at the crack of dawn because she'd forget about how early it was for me. Or at least that's what she told me. I've always had the sneaking suspicion she wanted to make sure I was in my own bed.

I know. I have already been thinking about my schedule and when it will be the best time to talk. She and her big sis are on the way to Pensacola airport and are running late! (They only had all morning to leave on time....not to worry!)

I lived in socal the first two years of my marriage. #1 was born out there. It was good to be away from all the parents but also hard. I was a baby at 21. The daddy brought home $98 a week. I took the little baby to the grocery store and spent $20. A lot of thrift store shopping! How we did it I'll never know.

I've raised three and trust me "they never go away"........

It's a great experience for her and mama you'll be fine.

SM, I'm sorry you're sad, but what a wonderful time in Joy Joy's life. I do hope you get to visit and like everyone else said, she'll always be in your heart and you in hers. She'll come back as soon as she can too, I bet.

Steeleing3 is relocating indefinitely to SanFran, leaving today! I am calling it a sabatical. She has a full time job and a place to live for a month. Hopefully she won't be gone too long cuz I don't think I can take it! Borago had a going away for her last night with quite a showing.
