I use iTunes, but all of the college students I know (my daughter and my students) use LimeWire.

Don't use LimeWire. I may be wrong, but I think it has our home machine screwed up.

A friend of mine uses Soul Seek.

Like I said, I may be wrong. I'm not really up on these things.

My daughter has been using LimeWire for two years and hasn't had a problem. You never know - sometimes I swear there's some little gremlin inside my computer just messing with me. The most embarrassing thing is when I have a problem for days, and then when I take it to IT, I can't reproduce the problem.

A guy I work with uses this term frequently when it comes to my computer problems.

That's funny. I try to be so logical and methodical with hardware problems, yet the voodoo that the IT guys/gals use seems to work better, I swear.

I'm a luddite. Hear a tune I like, I buy the CD. 9 times out of 10, there's at least one or two more on there I end up liking. Rip the tracks I really like off the CD and then leave them hanging around to dump into the little Rio or whatever. Artists are happy, I'm happy, and my musical tastes are regularly extended a bit. ;-)

I find swearing helps considerably. 😀

I try to support local business whenever possible, knowing sometimes that it costs more. I look at the extra costs as the cost of creating new relationships with the people inside. Therefore, I usually by my music from the music store in Seaside. On the occasion when I download, I use Realplayer. It is also a useful source for discovering new artists whom I would not have otherwise heard about.

I have been doing the same thing for 39 years. Time for a change

On the money - said well as usual.
The other reason I tend to avoid D/L is there's always a degree of (pollution) risk, though I'll give you that is reasonably minimal in most commercial venues. Generally speaking, the get-it-now digital download everything connected everywhere thing - from tunes and ringtones through the whole spectrum - is a target rich environment for techno exploiters of all sorts.

Change the "I" to "You" and I'm hearing an echo of my version of GraytonBound. :laughing1
Fair enough (and maybe I'll tear a page out of your book as well). I'll ask around at work tomorrow. Most of my fellow tech-heads are so darn totally wired they glow in the dark. At least a couple of them will be into music D/L & have done the due dilligence.

I-tunes, and the websites of the bands themselves.
Saw John Hiatt week before last and bought his new CD at the concert.
We also go down to the local record store as well.

99.9% of the time I do the same thing. I refuse to go to a Walmart I buy local when I can. But I am growing tired of buying a whole cd based on 1 or 2 songs and have to suffer through the rest of the crap on that cd.

At realplayer, you can preview the first 30 seconds of each song on most albums. Songs are 99cents each, or albums are typically $10. They also have the feature, other people who bought this album also bought...

Side note, I saw John Hiatt last week with the North Mississippi Allstars as his band, and it was a terrible show. It just didn't work. He should have performed solo.

Hmmm.. maybe the problem is Real Player vs Quick Time

Do you have a PC or MAC ? I have a MAC and must be on the top ten best customer list at the iTunes Music Store. I start listening to music and downloading then lose all track of time. I hope you get up and going at the iTunes Music Store. It's searchable, there are millions of songs and it's fun. Cheap, too. My family accused me of being in my 'second childhood' so I bought all of them iPods and now we have fun picking out music together. We compiled a lovely Jazz collection, Christmas songs, rock n roll, etc., etc.

PC. That's just it. I kept trying to search but nothing would happen. I think the installation must have gone bad. So I'm trying again. :bang:
