as I'm happy to admit when I actually am. Olmert might not be toast thanks to a recent appointment, and it appears that Likud beginning to show fissure. Also, it is not mentioned in this article, but look for Israel to make an announcement towards the end of the year that will greatly affect their neighbors attitudes.

http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/prem/200705/avigdor-lieberman

Since you have to subscribe, and I am sure many of you do not, I'll put up a little bit.

On the small stage of Israeli politics, Avigdor Lieberman is a suddenly large figure. Little more than a year ago, he was the leader of a splinter party of the radical right, excoriated for advocating a program that would disenfranchise and even expel Israel?s Arab citizens. But in an electoral earthquake last March, as Israel?s ruling parties crumbled, Lieberman?s Yisrael Beitenu (?Israel Is Our Home?) received nearly a tenth of the national vote?a virtual tie with Likud, the party of the respectable right. Lieberman has since joined Prime Minister Ehud Olmert?s ruling coalition as minister for strategic affairs.

On paper at least, Lieberman is responsible for coordinating Israel?s response to threats including the Iranian nuclear program and Hezbollah, Iran?s ally in Lebanon. Iran?its nuclear program, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad?s insistence that Israel will cease to exist, his denial of the Holocaust?features daily on Israel?s front pages. The failure last summer to disarm Hezbollah amplified the public panic. One poll conducted several months after last summer?s war with Lebanon showed that 66 percent of Israelis believed that if Iran got the bomb, it would try to destroy Israel. Lieberman?s newly created post might better be labeled ?minister for national fears.?

Olmert and the centrist Kadima movement were casualties of the war in Lebanon last summer. To bolster support in parliament, the prime minister had to offer Lieberman influence over decisions that could shape, and shake, the Middle East. Simply by granting him a ministerial position, Olmert gave legitimacy to hard-line views on internal issues. In December, addressing a convention of his Yisrael Beitenu, Lieberman declared that his goal was ?to be the ruling party? within two elections. When aristocracies fade, a pariah may reign.

There you are, holding the party line for men who would not let you into there front door. Well, they may let you in but only to go out and make there talking points for them. People have a problem with ignoring minimizing and marginalizing the truth. You are so quick to give your support to a bunch of bone heads yet knowing inside that something just does not smell right. I would welcome any debate on this subject with you not be cause I know more than you thats evident,I don't and I realize that I'm not stupid. No,I would win because I am on the right side of the argument. The only argument you have is misdirection thats it, but focus on the question did we need to go to Iraq to get that SOB bin laudan. The answer Will be bore out in history long after you and I are gone will be No. However unfortunate for those who gave all believing in our leaders. What shame can a man have before he admits his mistake.:(

it's rather shocking to see how ignorant most americans are about israel and its politics. they are nothing, if not tolerant and peaceful.

despite the fact that they withdrew from gaza tearing thousands of israelis from their generational homes and farms, palestinians continue to bomb schools and playgrounds in neighboring israel town sderot.

why don't we ever hear about this in the western news? there seems to be this concept that israeli lives - even children's- are not relevant. that same perspective held true when lebanon attacked isreal without warning directly bombing the children's hospital in safed.

where was the international outcry then? for that matter, where was the international reporting! while isreal is grateful for our support, we should be more grateful for a lone ally that is the only democratic nation in the region and the only country in the world that pays back any financial support given to them by the west on time and with interest.

yes, there are radicals on the right and the left in israel. but unlike us. israel has done a wonderful job of giving voice to the smallest minority without allowing them to hijack the government.

In an effort to learn I would ask you is it also your opinion that might makes right. yes it is my belief that Jewish people have endured some of the cruelest things imaginable. But do you believe that reparations are not in order for this thing to ever go away. And yes there was a Holocaust but certainly you don't believe that the jewish people were the only genocide of the 20th century. What about the Armenians. Should we also give them back turkey. In order to stop this killing all must admit there has been wrong doing on all sides. Failure to understand your enemy is the first way to fail.:idontno:

Do you realize you have six unrequited replies on this thread alone? And how many times on other threads? I'd love to stay and play on the internet all day, but I'm rather booked up right now. I hosted a dinner party Friday night and was messing with Walking Horses most of Saturday, but I see you spent the vast majority of your weekend trying to figure me out. Sheesh. Step away from the computer every once in a while. It is good for the soul.

if we were to get into a discussion about reparations, we would have to discuss the BILLIONS owed the 500,000 arabs jews who live in isreal now who were exiled from their homes and properties in muslim countries in the last 60 odd years. thankfully, israeli jews don't force us to deal with that or hold us hostage until we reconcile that.

in addition, any land that a jew lives on in israel was legally purchased by the resident of the land. anyone living on any "disputed" lands actually owns a DEED to the property and has paid for it and registered it legally. i have NEVER seen a piece of land in isreal where an arab was exiled from, but i have seen many jewish holy sites, jewish archeaological areas and isreali family homes that have been taken by the PLO and where jews are no longer allowed. Many arabs sold land in Israel to the Jews because it was considered worthless at the time. and indeed,at the time, it was not fertile and mosquito infested.

you should also understand that NOTHING was taken from the "palestinians". the "palestinians" are not a nation, but an ethnic group that was exiled from jordan. arafat was actually born and raised in egypt. if you truly care about the palestinian people, then you will abhor the way they are used by the arab council as pawns. they encourage victimizing them so they can blame isreal. ever wonder how the jewish refugees of the concentration camps and jewish refugees of arab countries were able to make a thriving land from what is essentially a desert despite the fact they were being attacked every day? ever wonder why despite the fact that BILLIONS are stockpiled away in swiss bank accounts under arafat's name that the PLO built no infrastructure for its people? because if the palestinians were thriving, then who would they blame?

as the terrorists put it, they count on the racism of westerners to explain why the palestinians are not capable of diplomacy. while isrealis find that idea ridiculous because they regard palestinians as intelligent and equal racist americans and europeans believe that arabs must always resort to violence and therefore accept that racist viewpoint as rationalization for terrorism.

the truly compassionate are the isrealis who risk life and limb to go into palestinian villages to provide medical care to people that will murder them for it. the truly peaceful are the jews who despite surviving their own refugee nightmare still give their homes and lands to the arabs as they did during sinai and more recently gaza to ensure peace.

again, most americans are WOEFULLY ignorant about middle eastern history and base their opinions on institutionalized propaganda. our school systems simply don't teach the facts about history anymore.

i encourage you to either travel through the "disputed terroritories" as i have to learn the truth. or to visit some of these websites to educate yourself further:

while i don't believe that posting an educated explanation of the mideast conflict will do much good. it's important to me to fight ignorance with facts and therefore, i believe it's my responsibility to respond even if the answer simply goes into the ether. as ridiculous as these comments have been, if people don't speak up about the truth it will be drowned out by ignorance.

Quoting pro-israeli websites and claiming to be presenting facts oversimplifies a very complex issue. Open your mind and try to see things through the eyes of others.

i'm merely stating facts dear. i'm sorry if factual information offends you.

how did you arrive at your oversimplified opinion?

I would in no way try to change your mind but instead seek to understand. You spoke of personal experiences, please elaborate. And ask yourself is it your belief that ALL OF mankind's blood is just as valuable as YOUR own. I find that many times when I am passionate about something I sometimes over look things that I should of seen, and that is why I'm asking mf,Does might make right?and if not can you at least understand why many on the other side would disagree with you?

In your extensive research and personal maturation over the past decades, you must have developed at least a minimal ability to recognize that "facts" can be presented in any way to serve an agenda. You are either extremely naive to the way of the world or so fixed in your views that you simply spout information that already confirms your view.;-)

"..based on a 2004 version of the Israeli government database that had been provided by an official who wanted the information published. Those figures showed that 38.8 percent of the land on which Israeli settlements were built was listed as private Palestinian land.

The data shows a pattern of illegal seizure of private land that the Israeli government has been reluctant to acknowledge or to prosecute, according to the Peace Now report. Israel has long asserted that it fully respects Palestinian private property in the West Bank and takes land there only legally or, for security reasons, temporarily. That large sections of those settlements are now confirmed by official data to be privately held land is bound to create embarrassment for Israel and further complicate the already distant prospect of a negotiated peace."

http://www.cfr.org/publication.html?id=7628

"The government of Israel committed this injustice by applying to Jerusalem the Absentee Property Law that was enacted by Israel in 1950 to enable it to confiscate the property of Palestinians who had fled or were expelled from the new state in the period between November 1947 and September 1948.

The 1950 law categorized Arabs who were "outside the territory of Israel" (i.e. in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip or elsewhere) as absentees whose property would be transferred to a "Custodian of Absentee Property," with no appeal or compensation.
When Israel annexed East Jerusalem following the 1967 war, it enlarged it from its previous 38 square kilometers to 108 by incorporating 28 Arab villages and towns that had not been part of the city. Technically, according the 1950 law, Arab residents of Bethlehem -- parts of whose lands were now in East Jerusalem while their adjoining houses remained in Bethlehem -- could be considered "absentee landlords." However, Israel's attorney general noted in 1950 that it is impossible to designate as absentee landlords people who can come across the new municipal boundary of Jerusalem "at any moment and attest they exist and claim their property."

Well having been a son of a Holiness Preacher I have heard my entire life that God gave the Jews that land Bless them that bless you and curse them that curse you has always been my dad's approach about Israel. having said that I still don't understand why the Jewish people went to a country that was then known as Palestine and call it Israel, and then expect that there would not be any consequences. It just seems like we Americans here recently are getting them. That is the consequences
