Sinus or allergy problems

Is anyone else having problems with their sinuses or allergies acting up? For three days I have had a headache from the time I got up until late in the evening. Head and ears stopped up, ears and teeth hurting. Achiness in my legs and joints around the elbows. Does anyone else experience this? I have been miserable. A pressure type headache in the back of my head. Need some suggestions, and some relief. :(

If the pollen is what gets you and it is bad, shower before you go to bed- because all that pollen in your hair just goes on your pillow, and then on your face!

Wow - I'm having terrible, terrible joint pain!! Both shoulders, one hip, one knee, one ankle. Just started about 10 days ago, the same time everyone else is suffering from allergies (which I don't have). And it came on suddenly, like over night! I go to my physical therapist 2x/week for the past 3 mos. for my plantar flasciitis and they've been concentrating on my knee now instead. I had an ultrasound a week ago at the hosp. to rule out a blood clot, or baker's cyst, etc. They found nothing. Just swollen and warm to the touch. I can barely get up and down the stairs, sleeping thru the night is a joke. I have an ice pack around my knee almost 24/7. All the docs want me to see a rheumatologist. But I have been considering that this is some kind of an allergy or menopausal symptom. Lord, this is bad.

Sorry to hijack your thread, Ladyd, but maybe this is all linked somehow.

Feel better soon.

No, you haven't hijacked anything. Glad to have your input into this. I too never sleep through the night. Whatever this is has me feeling very run down. I had noticed my legs feeling achy all week but now my arms feel that way. I had always wondering if sinus and allergies could cause body ache type feelings like the flu. And also, I too am thinking like you with the menopausal thing. The other night I was pulling the cover up over me one minute and the next I was throwing it off because I was sweating and this was just under a sheet. Almost like a hot flash.

Folks with allergies have been having a miserable season this year. If you want in on a well kept secret to sinus relief, go to any decent drugstore and pick up a Neilmed sinus flushing kit;it costs about $10 and consists of a plastic squeeze bottle and several packets of salts you dissolve in water and flush the sinuses with. Those who have used it are impressed with the results and (surprisingly) report it is comfortable to use.

I've heard of sinus flush kits but this sounds awful. But the comfortable to use part I am not so sure about. But it might be worth a try.

I know it sounds kinda gross but it works and after you do it once, you know what to expect and it's not bad at all. I started using them last year when my dr gave me one when I had a stubborn sinus infection. It works really well for that too. The key for comfort is the temp of the water. Check it just like you would a babies bottle to make sure it's not too hot or cold.

Coincidentally, here is a link to when my ex-stepdaugher (still my daughter in my heart) was on Oprah a couple of weeks ago, along the same lines, skunky.

It looks pretty radical, but she swears it's wonderful!!

I have seen that little pot for sale at Whole Foods, but I think it might be expensive. Here is a link to what I am talking about...the plastic bottle makes it easier to judge the water temperature! You can buy the bottle and 50 packets of salt for less than $12.

It's called a Netti pot. Got mine for $12. Use it twice a day and it sure does the job. Flushes all the pollen away.

Well, I purchased the sinus flush kit called Neilmed Sinus Rinse kit that Skunky recommended. It has an 8 ounce plastic bottle with a 8 ounce fill line with 50 packets of the flush product. Very easy to use and not at all uncomfortable to use. You flush one side with 4 ounces and then repeat on the other side. Heating 8 ounces of water in a measuring cup in the microwave for 30 seconds gets it lukewarm. I use the recommended distilled water. But you can boil water on the stove. Anyway the Neilmed Sinus Rinse kit cost me $10.99 at Walgreens and does actually seem to be helping some. Had no burning irritation in my nose all last night after using it at 7:00 p.m.! Worth a try for those of you who thought it sounded horrible as I did myself. But it is not bad. Can be used twice a day.
