Am obsessed with how beautiful it looks and would love to buy one - HOWEVER (and I am not particularly tech savvy!) I have been told and have read that it is an incredible gadget all around EXCEPT it is not good or ideal with email and with synching up with outlook on PC's - which is the main thing I would need a pda for!!!!

Any suggestions or advice from obsessed fan who wants one but knows it would truely be luxury and not best for work related e-mail (damn!)????

No matter, they got the float on a whole lotta money. Steve Jobs only changed his position, yesterday. He originally told everyone to shove it.

$100.

Is it cash or "store credit"? I thought it was credit.

From PCWorld.com

How Much Can You Expect Back
Apple says a $100 credit to Apple stores will be given to all iPhone users who paid the original price.

The Apple Store told me it would refund $200 to those who paid $599 for the 8GB iPhone in the past two weeks. Those who purchased the $499 iPhone within two weeks can return it for a full refund instead of taking the credit.

One local AT&T Wireless store I spoke with said anyone who has purchased a iPhone in the past 14 days - regardless of the capacity - are eligible for $200 cash back.

You know, I think an important point is made... give it a year or so for wrinkles to be ironed out. Isn't this always the case?
I am a very proud Mac owner and I have to say... without any arrogance... they are just incredible machines! The ease, the sense, the visual sleekness... they really are just superior. And I know that the arguement is made (by SJ and others) that it can be frustrating that they don't allow others to use their software, but it is in my, maybe naive, opinion that these moves and decisions were strategic and neccessary to gain the strength that they have gained in the market.
I am constantly blown away by the company... actual function of product, design and marketing. Truly impressive.
They have gained incredible success and popularity... and I think that it is with great reason.

Now, in reference to the phones... I can't afford it! But I wish that in about a year or so... when kinks have been worked out and prices have been lowered... I could have one!

Cheers to Macs. And to avid PC users... you will be converted... eventually! :D

The key pad is hard to use and the screen can break rather easily.

To all iPhone customers:
I have received hundreds of emails from iPhone customers who are upset about Apple dropping the price of iPhone by $200 two months after it went on sale. After reading every one of these emails, I have some observations and conclusions.

First, I am sure that we are making the correct decision to lower the price of the 8GB iPhone from $599 to $399, and that now is the right time to do it. iPhone is a breakthrough product, and we have the chance to 'go for it' this holiday season. iPhone is so far ahead of the competition, and now it will be affordable by even more customers. It benefits both Apple and every iPhone user to get as many new customers as possible in the iPhone 'tent'. We strongly believe the $399 price will help us do just that this holiday season.

Second, being in technology for 30+ years I can attest to the fact that the technology road is bumpy. There is always change and improvement, and there is always someone who bought a product before a particular cutoff date and misses the new price or the new operating system or the new whatever. This is life in the technology lane. If you always wait for the next price cut or to buy the new improved model, you'll never buy any technology product because there is always something better and less expensive on the horizon. The good news is that if you buy products from companies that support them well, like Apple tries to do, you will receive years of useful and satisfying service from them even as newer models are introduced.

Third, even though we are making the right decision to lower the price of iPhone, and even though the technology road is bumpy, we need to do a better job taking care of our early iPhone customers as we aggressively go after new ones with a lower price. Our early customers trusted us, and we must live up to that trust with our actions in moments like these.

Therefore, we have decided to offer every iPhone customer who purchased an iPhone from either Apple or AT&T, and who is not receiving a rebate or any other consideration, a $100 store credit towards the purchase of any product at an Apple Retail Store or the Apple Online Store. Details are still being worked out and will be posted on Apple's website next week. Stay tuned.

We want to do the right thing for our valued iPhone customers. We apologize for disappointing some of you, and we are doing our best to live up to your high expectations of Apple.

It reads as if Steve is predicting a very slow Christmas sales season.

Love, love, love my iPhone. Works like a charm and the sound is clear
as a bell. It is a marvel not to mention it's fun as hell. Naysayers should experience one before passing judgement. My son has a pc (poor baby) and his iPhone syncs with no problems.

Down here, it would mean going with a cell phone service which is sub-par.

Isn't the iPhone AT&T (formerly Cingular)? That's what I've had for two years using a Motorola phone and it never fails. What service are you talking about and why give it a sub-par rating?

I'm sure it improved since the merger, as they acquired more cell towers, but I think that Alltel is superior when talking about complete coverage of SoWal and the areas to the north, although it, too, has holes.

I've had my iPhone for months and LOVE it! The service is great through AT&T. the only area where I have ever experienced a problem with service is in Grayton Beach, and to be honest, the last time I was down there my phone worked great.

It works all over South Walton, Destin and PC.

Give it a try - you'll love it. I swear, I never thought a phone would change my life! :-)

I have had Cingular for years now. I think that the service has gotten worse since the merger. I daily get people who tell me;

~that my phone goes straight to voice mail
~they get a message stating that this number is no longer in service
~message stating that all circuits are busy

I tried to call my cousin 4 mornings in a row and could not get her phone to ring (at&t) until around noon :bang:
I called at&t and they told me that they are trying to get the kinks worked out from the merger
I, along with several other at&t customers, am looking at changing providers. I just need one that works well in Inlet Beach....

SJoe, where does Alltell have holes?? I heard only around Watercolor:idontno:

Alltel has spots of holes in several locations, but they are not too large. However, if one of the holes is in your house, that doesn't do much good. Near those holes, on overcast days, signal strength also decreases.

I tried a touch screen phone several months ago and hated it, primarily due to not being able to feel the buttons. I don't want to have to look at the buttons to press them, and then check the numbers I input on the screen. Try doing that and something else at the same time. With so many people doing that as they are driving down the road, I think we've only begun to see an increase in accidents due to cell phone usage. I'll stick to the button and voice activated phone.

My iPhone is synced in my automobile making it handsfree . Voice recognition, dontchaknow. Folks should pull over or off the road to dial their cell phones. I agree there have been many accidents due to using phones in cars. Saw a TV show once where drivers were being tested. Some drivers were sleep-deprived. Some were under the influence. Some were rested and sober while driving using cell phones. The cell phone users made the most mistakes. A real eye-opener.
