Good question, jdarg.

Off point-but did anyone see the interview with Bill Gates and the interviewer asked Bill Gates what music was on his ipod? Hilarious. Bill Gates said "don't have one, my music is on my phone."

You have to find songs which have rhythm of the pace you want to walk. I bet there is a website somewhere which allows you to search for songs by the number of beats to a measure.

Do you guys not recall all of the talk, back when WalkMans were popular, about personal headphones causing major hearing loss?

My Ipod is nature.

My iPod gets plugged into my car's sound system and played at moderate volume. And what gets played is a lot of 80s New Wave and Brit Pop. I feel like Peter Gabriel, Depeche Mode, and the like still entertain me.

I should bring you a copy of the mix I made for the 8th grade graduates; most of the music is very walking-worthy. I either listen to something that helps me keep up my pace, or I listen to Podcasts of "This American Life," to which I am embarrassingly addicted.

I have a lot of 70's and 80's music that is great for getting your heart rate up. I find a walk to the beat regardless of my intention....

Dancing Queen -- ABBA
Sister Golden Hair -- America
In a Big Country -- Big Country
Under the Milky Way -- The Church
Just Like Heaven -- Cure
Friday I'm in Love
Pictures of You
Come on Eileen -- Dexys Midnight Runners
New Religion -- Duran Duran
Who'll Stop the Rain
Is There Something I Should Know
Hungry Like the Wolf
Need You Tonight -- INXS
I Melt with You -- Modern English
Here Comes Your Man -- Pixies
Pretty in Pink -- Psychedelic Furs
Afternoon Delight -- Starland Vocal Band
Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes -- Paul Simon
In Your Eyes -- Peter Gabriel

Then there's the mix I use for when I'm in a dark mood and don't want to walk--

Heart Shaped Box -- Nirvana
Warehouse -- Dave Matthews Band
Seek Up
All Along the Watchtower
Dancing Nancies
Jimi Thing
Rapunzel
Turn You Inside Out -- REM
Superman (really good for when you don't want to work out)
Crush with Eyeliner
L.A. Woman -- The Doors
Peace Frog
Immigrant Song -- Led Zeppelin
Ramble On
My Doorbell -- White Stripes

And Jack Johnson is great for a beach walk.

You got it! The first song is their class song--go figure, didn't even know they knew who Diana Ross is--and the last song is because of their 8th grade musical being "Grease." Also, I used the "Clean" version for every song.

I'm Coming Out--Diana Ross
Run It--Chris Brown
So Sick--Ne-Yo
SOS--Rihanna
Irreplaceable--Beyonce
This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race--Fall Out Boy
Glamorous--Fergie
Dani California--Red Hot Chili Peppers
The Sweet Escape--Gwen Stefani
Bad Day--Daniel Powter
Cupid's Chokehold/Breakfast in America--Gym Class Heroes
Makes Me Wonder--Maroon 5
We Go Together--John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John
