A friend of mine just called and said that the water has been cleared of all swimmers due to a shark sighting AND an 8 yr old girl has been missing from the beach for about an hour!
Friends......BE CAREFUL out there!

Any news on the child? Hope this is no hoax and the child is found safe.

Are the 2 events related?
Or did the kid wander off while the parents were drinking, looking for the shark, etc?

I haven't heard any updates yet. Let you know when/if I do.
I lost my son on the beach (briefly) when he was 2...it was the worst feeling I have ever had.

I hope all turns out OK for this child. I'm sorry to hear about those of you who have lost a child for any period of time. I'm sure my heart would stop until the child was found!

I stopped by PJ's yesterday afternoon. No word about the little girl....good news, I hope!
The lifeguard, Ross, said he saw a "small" 4' shark. He said that when he was calling everyone out of the water, they looked at him like he was speaking greek! :idontno:

It is interesting when you are chest deep in the Gulf and you hear people yelling SHARK! First thought is it must be HUGE by the way these people are screaming. Second thought is, they are tourists and it might not even be a shark. Third thought is, it could be a small shark. Final thought before deciding to get out of the water is, what if it IS a huge shark? :shark:

I don't care what size it is, I want to be on land or a boat when I see it - even if it turns out to be a dolphin!
People who don't listen to a lifeguard telling them to get out of the water because there's a shark go in the same category as those I overhear bragging on their cells that the double red flags won't keep them out of the water/ruin their vacation.

True!
I still have vivid memories of hearing about the young girl that was killed by a shark a couple of years back near Sandestin!
I don't go out past my knees anymore, and I am short!

My guess is that we would have heard more about it if the girl was still missing. Heck, if a shark was involved, it would have been on the national news yesterday.
