I know there are a BUNCH of folks on this board from TX, MO, OH, KY, AL, PA, Nooga (jeez?), and other places. I'm just curious to see how many SoWal'ers hail (now or formerly) from Atlanta?? I've heard repeatedly that Walton County is the southernmost ATL suburb. It's starting to feel like it... so I'm just checking.

Post a reply if you claim a current or recent ATL connection (not flying through Hartsfield, or lived here in 1979, or dated kimmifunn in ATL one weekend...) ;-)

The thought occurs to me that we don't need to go to SoWal for a SoWal.com get together... See? :D

Oh Atlanta (Little Feat)
-- Bill Payne

They got a place down Kentucky
Right down near Ohio
Where you can watch the planes at night
People line up to watch each flight
I said watchin' them planes
I wish I was on one
I'm sittin' here thinkin' 'bout my red head dream
If I could only see her tonight

Oh Atlanta, Oh Atlanta!
I said yeah! yeah! yeah! Atlanta, got to get back to you

Well you can drop me off on Peachtree
I got to feel that Georgia sun
And the women there in Atlanta
They make you awfully glad you come
I said watchin' them planes
I wish I was on one
I'm sittin' here thinking 'bout my crazy dream
If I could only be there tonight

Oh Atlanta, Oh Atlanta!
I said yeah! yeah! yeah! Atlanta, got to get back to you

We make a day and how just you and me
But the music plays all night
They got the boogie band blowin' that's bound for hell
And when they get to movin' they never stop
You just keep on playin' that down home beat
You just keep on layin' it down hot

I wish I was on one
I'm sittin' here thinkin' bout my red haired dream
If I could only see her tonight

Dunwoody Mutha (name of a band a few years back).

My office was in Dunwoody for quite sometime. The ride around the perimeter was usually lots and lots of fun! Ever go to Park Place on Ashford Dunwoody? Used to be a Thursday night hangout for my office.

Well, my siblings and I were all born at Crawford W. Long Hospital in the ATL, and Dr. T. F. Davenport. Jr., (from the novel "Peachtree Road") was our pediatrician. I lived at Georgia Baptist Hospital for two months when I had a high-risk pregnancy that produced my only child who is now at Georgia Tech (and also MIT, but she missed THE SOUTH). My family definitely qualifies as native Atlantans.

Yeah, I'd say you are bona fide! :clap_1: (Steel Magnolia?).

"Native Atlantan" used to be an oxymoron since there were SO many transient job/career chasers that cycled through here. Anyone with 10 years could claim "native" status and not get much of an argument (although I suspect you might take issue!).

Actually my father was born in his parents' home on Beattie (sp?) Avenue in SW ATL in 1914. His parents weren't native - they were born in Wilkes County, GA (near Augusta). Our roots are in North Carolina. One of the freshman dorms at Duke University is named after one of my ancestors (Aycock) - yes, I know all of the jokes.

No argument here. I hail from Athens and my husband is from N.C. I've been here for.......crap, you know you're old when you have to drag out the calculator to figure out how long you've lived somewhere!

I do wear that "Steel Magnolia" title quite proudly though. Here's to all us G.R.I.T.S.! :clap_1::clap_1::clap_1::clap_1:

ATL....represent!

We're southside for now. May be Tucker or Decatur-bound before too long though.

I grew up in Atlanta. Went to North Springs High many moons ago. Now in the suburbs (Newnan) for the last 10 years. Work downtown at The Coca-Cola Company.

Girl!? Not this again... ;-) OMG, the "Disco Kroger." How about Johnny's Hideaway (never been there), Dante's Down the Hatch, or little ol' McNeeleys on Collier and Peachtree (I been there...)?

Sounds like there are plenty of willing and able Atlanta SoWal'ers, but I KNOW there are more on this board. Let's wait 'til they post and then start batting around ideas for a get-together (and, yes, RO/GB/Lollygal, 'Nooga is close enough... it wouldn't be the same without you).

Stay tuned.

For you, Bob, absolutely it qualifies ;-) , and we would love to have you at an ATL/SoWal gig, but wouldn't it be easier for you to get to the "real deal" SoWal from Orlando?

It's strange, but the drive to Atlanta is slightly shorter I think. I use I-75 to I-10,which is not very direct, but the anticipation of the beach makes the drive seem very short.

Never been to Johnny's Hide-away, except the one in Seacrest Beach! My husband let me name our place there.;-)

There's another place in Dunwoody, that used to be "the place" to go inthe late '80's early '90's.
Actually, it was very close, or maybe was where Park Place was back in the day. The name escapes me. Do you know where I'm talking about?

Yes, it was in Park Place next to the Houlihan's. Gone now. Can't remember its name but it was a big spot back in the day. My brother or my wife will remember.
