I will be making my 3rd trip to Grayton 2 weeks from today. I can't remember/still don't know the most efficient and speedy route to come. We will be heading south on I-65. Any of you regulars have a secret, fast way to come? Thanks.

Chick Magnet, I know you won't be coming through Memphis of course as we came 78 to 65 at Birmingham, but here is how we came from Birmingham. It is a great way. It cut an hour off of our time, even from Memphis.

From Birmingham, take I-65 until a little ways beyond Montgomery and then take Exit 106 which is the Georgianna exit which took us onto Hwy 55 going through Andalusia then to Florala where we picked up 331 the rest of the way in. Our travel time this route from Memphis took 7 hrs. 45 minutes two years ago coming this route with two stops. We will use it again this year.

This is the scooterbug tested and approved route! It looks like you are winding around on a map, but it saves a lot of time!

We've been using this route lately, too, but I don't know how much time it's actually saving us. Plus, we miss part of my favorite section of 331. I know jdarg tells a story of being in a caravan of Louisvillians (chick magnet, I think you were actually part of it) where one group got on 331 right at Montgomery and the other group got on 'round Georgianna, and it was all the same. :idontno:

peapod1980, it definitely saved us time. The previous trips we came 65 to 331 and the other 65 picking up 231 and on into Panama City and it took us until 4:30 to get here, with this new route, we cut off actually an hour and 15 minutes. We were at the beach house at 3:15. And left Memphis at 7:30 a.m.!

Time-wise, it's probably about the same. Distance-wise, the Georgiana route may actually be a few miles further. However, the Georgiana-Andalusia-Florala route is my preference because IMO, there are fewer speed traps and fewer traffic lights.

Chick- you loser. You know the way here. Both routes took the same time 2 years ago when we ran the test- Stef went 331, we went Georgianna. Waved at each other in Freeport. So just go 331 where there are more stops for the kids if you need to make them, and BTW- start packing.

Your next door neighbors are warming me up for y'all - they are coming next week.

I agree JB. We found out about that route two years ago from the people we rent from. They used to live here in Memphis and their daughter still does and this is the way she and her family come from Memphis. There is not near the traffic on State Highway 55 and of course when we come to 331 at 98 we go left as we are staying in Inlet Beach. It comes out at a great spot for us. I'm so ready for the beach.

That IS a somewhat exhaustive list for me. Still,'The List' is a Grayton tradition. I'd feel incomplete without it.
