As of tomorrow I am on a nine day vacation!!!! YEAH!!!

Ok, so the lady that we are renting from in Seagrove e-mails me with a list of things that she has for the house...beach stuff, household items, all very nice. Then she tells me that there is no BBQ pit this year due to insurance reasons and that we should just go buy a cheap one and pitch it when we are done. Is this common now for rental homes? I'm not upset or anything , just wondering....I mean we are from St. Louis god knows we got to BBQ!!!!! PORK STEAKS!!!!!😀

I can't speak for all rental home owners, but we have a gas grill at each of our 2 houses and the condo we own has little community grills scattered around the property. We grill out a lot when we are there and assume others would like to do the same. The fire pit may have been a hazard during the drought and fires in and around the area. Just a guess on my part. We have not received any notification form our insurance company yet.

I did have a lady that called one year and complained that she wanted to use our grill and it was dirty and the gas can was empty. I explained that per our instructions, she could do a can exchange at Tom Thumb (less than a mile from our house), and I would refund her the cost of the exchange. Then burn off the grill for about 5 to 10 minutes and scrape the grill. That wasn't suitable. She asked if I would refund her the $$$$ they would spend on dinner out for all 16 of them. I declined. She also asked for a refund because it rained a couple of days for an hour or so and ruined her grandchildren's beach time. I politely declined that request as well. She's the exception to the rule.

That is too funny. Wanting a refund because it rained on two different days for an hour or so. We drove in a downpour one year all the way to Pensacola to the lighthouse. What I would do if we were down there and it is raining like that, take a nap. 😀 But usually the rains are very brief down there. Wow, an hour or so rain two days out of 7. Big deal. Is she going to ask her mortgage company for a refund because she cannot let her kids outside at home because of rain???

You aren't saying you won't be using it in the meantime, are you? I love the Big Green Eggs, fantastic smokers and great for high-temp steak searing.

Here's my smoker, always ready to cook or hook-up to the car for a tailgate or a competition:

Man she sounds like a piece of work. Hope she goes to Disney and asks for a refund when it rains:lol:

Chrisv, are you doing the one in Birmingham the weekend of August 25th Stokin the fire? We have a friend that does all of these. He is a pharmacist in Dothan, AL, I forget the name of his bbqers, but I know they set up a dance floor and even have a disco ball at these bbq cook-offs! We should be there this year for that one.

Due to insurance we are not allowed a charcoal grill at our rental - we have a electric grill instead - obviously that hasn't been good enough for a couple of people because we have confiscated a couple of Smokey Joes that people have left behind on the balcony - our friends love it.

Not going to be in that one, it's a KCBS (Kansas City BBQ Society) comp and I just haven't done any of those. I've done FBA (Florda BBQ) and am trying to get into a MIM (Memphis in May) comp.

I think I know who you are talking about- the pharmacist in Dothan. The comps are fun, much like a football game tailgate party, just without a game to get in the way!

I am like, the lightning rod for strange and unusual events and people. She also left me a list of "improvements" I needed to make. Such as replace burned out light bulb in the bedside table. I guess the "box of spare light bulbs are in a box above fridge" was not on the list of things she does on her vaca. :idontno:

Chris I can't figure out why I've never seen your black bomb on the beach at Grayton.

A GF owner in Destiny told me one time his renters, because it was rainig, brought buckets of sand into the living room and dumped them on the floor for the kids to play. I guess some folks feel if they're paying $7k a week they can do whatever they want.

They have a nice model at Publix for $40 and I think one that is cheaper without a lid. If you do get one there's no reason to trash it I'm sure someone can use it.

Kurt, I've thought about trying to do that, but figured with my luck I'd get it stuck. It would be pretty cool, though.

Audie:
So you've got multiple eggs?! Very nice.
