Space Junk You must read this. I am speechless. You mean to tell me there was no other way? And, to think it could injure or kill a person upon re-entry? :idontno:

They've been doing this for YEARS. I remember hearing a warning when I was a little bitty kid about space junk from a satellite that was re-entering the earth's atmosphere.

Something the size of a refrigerator will most likely burn completely up before it hits. Just don't go skydiving that day.

Are they trading up for a stainless steel refridgerator and granite counter tops?

One of the major tracking stations for all that space junk is a couple miles northwest of Freeport. It's a huge building that's by far Chelco's largest electricity account.

Your sitting on the beach, gazing at the beauty of the waves as they roll onto shore. In the distance, dolphins frolick in the emerald waters. The sea air is almost as refreshing as the tropical drink you are sipping as you're thinking "this is as good as it gets!". Then.....SPLAT!!!!!!! (on the upside...the fridge was later tagged by authorities)

Is that the HUGE building which you can see from the 331 bridge? I had heard that building housed NASA's space Com. That is one big building.

It's the 20th Space Control Squadron HQ.

I'm not sure if you see it from the bridge, but it's a huge building that's got a very tall, somewhat concave wall to the side of it. There's a paved road into Eglin Reservation somewhere around Owl's Head where if you go a couple miles inlands, and then go a bit north, you can drive right past the complex. (provided you've got the Eglin rec pass to legally be on those roads)

That is the building alright, and you can definitely see it from the top of the bridge when heading north.
