Heard a rumor that Bill Clinton will be at Harbordocks in Destin in a couple of weeks - anyone know anything?

I'll bring the cigars!

That sounds very gross. Do you really find Bill to be sexually attractive?

someone qualified, for a start.

how so many americans could have supported a BF moron like Bush (twice) is so beyond me that it makes me not want to care who gets elected. We cannot sink this country any lower if we tried.

but, I'll do my best to care and will be interested in hearing from all of you on the issues, etc.

Amen sister.
IMO, we really have some limited choices right now. No one particular candidate right now sparks my interest in the least bit.

I can't see how anyone would want the job to be perfectly honest and step in the poo poo mess Bush is leaving behind. :idontno:

I wish more than a two-party system was represented at debates.

Give other parties a voice!

Ron Paul is an interesting candidate. Don't agree with free trade policies, but he seems the least corrupt of the entire lineup. That means he has no chance. Whoever wins the Repub side will be running against Hillary. Obama and Edwards can't force her into reacting about much of anything.

I wouldn't bet on that one, not even if I were using your money. It is a terrible state we are in when we like choosing a person who is the least corrupt. (They are all corrupt!) That is like being happy if gas prices go back to $2.75 per gallon. It wasn't two years ago when we were all outraged that the gas prices were nearing the two dollar mark per gallon. I think we've come to expect politicians to be crooked, and that in itself, says it all.

First "BF"?? No idea. And the rest of your post is woefully unaware of history. Bush isn't the brightest or the best, but he was the best there was at the time. Blame your own party for trotting out someone who couldn't carry his home state and an out of touch NE liberal Senator with zero political instinct to face a very defeatable Bush.

I am not referring to history. It is my opinion that america elected someone wholly unqualified (twice) and it is my hope that we can do much better in the future. It isn't a historical perspective, it is an opinion. Its based on my observation throughout this adminstration.

If you have some historical perspective you would like to share, then please do so.

Otherwise, its probably best that I ignore your assholiness for now.

I think my avatar speaks for itself. Here is her position on a couple of issues that are facing the gulf coast:

Dig a moat the length of the mexican border.

Use the dirt to raise the levees in New Orleans.

Put all the Florida gators in the moat. We could add sharks too:biggrin:

It would have been hard for any Dem to win that election. Bush being elected had less to do with who his competition was in the race and more to do with dragging the ultra conservative religious right out to vote. The vote was partly fear based ("only we can keep you safe") and partly a vote against gays. Suddenly gay marriage was the most dreaded thing that could happen to the country. Every old couple in line with me to vote talked about voting for God and to protect the family. I know several churches that encouraged members to vote for that very reason. Bush doesn't separate church and state and played to them for their vote, then turned from them after his election.

It wouldn't do any good, since it's been ignored when I've brought it up in the past. I'm just saying that your opinion is woefully ignorant of history. That's all.

Did Bush campaign in a church? Did every one of his opponents? Based on that alone, your post is completely disingenuous.

He didn't have to be in church. Led by Rove, Bush knew what hot buttons to push to rally the religious right. He added those to his speeches as he campaigned and they listened. I heard him do so, and I thought he was stupid to want to change the constitution to ban gay marriage. I personally don't think the government needs to be in our marriages and bedrooms.

I also sat in church, listened to Pastors advise their congregation on the upcoming election and the need for them to get out and vote to protect the "family values". Some even offered rides to help them get there. My son is in the ministry and I know 5 other pastors closely. We know of many churches that did just this. The winning votes were brought out, some of those old people in line with me hadn't voted for years but by golly they needed to vote now to protect America from the gays. It's not at all disingenous. How much more straightforward does the post have to be for you to understand?

Cheering,
First let me say that I'm against them all (politicians). Secondly, I can show you videos of Obama and Clinton, in "black churches," trying to get the "black" vote. I don't know what your point is with the whole religious thing in politics, because both sides of the isle cater to those people. I also see all candidates running, not on their own stance on the issues, but they know that they can gain more appeal and votes by hitting the emotions of people. I understand that Bush appealed to the emotions of the religious right, but I also hear the candidates on the left appealing to the emotions of the environmental and anti-war thoughts within us.

They are all crooks! Don't quickly point the finger at only one. They are all full of horse poo.

I agree completely SJ. Sorry Iwasn't clear. I don't trust politicians and I know they all use whatever tactics they can to win. My original point was the weakness of the Democratic candidate wasn't what got Bush elected. Which is what was said by 6thgen to Tootsie.

The Dems weak choice wasn't to blame for Bush's win. It was Bush's use of his base. Completly legal, and everyone does it, except of course then he turned his back on them. But that's what got him elected. Don't blame the Dems as 6thgen suggested to Tootsie or say that he was the best vote at the time. I don't think even the strongest Dem candidate could have beat the Bush machine then. Now that more is known and made public about this administration I feel it will be different. Sadly I fear, even a weak Dem candidate will look better by comparison and we will be no better off.

I too have seen all parties appeal to emotional, it's all to common.

cheering, now I understand your point. Just wait until myspace.com and youtube.com play major roles in candidates gaining popularity contests. It is all smoke and mirrors, and the games have already begun.

Okay, here goes...if you didn't vote, don't complain, but between now and Nov. 2008, register to vote, then start reading about and questioning candidates. If you did vote, thank you. IMHO, it does no good to place blame on those who voted for Bush (me, included)...I did my homework and it was the lessor of two evils in my book. BTW...almost all the politicians I know of tell their audience just what they want to hear and spout "party lines". It's the candidates with the new, fresh ways of looking at things that are not going to make it through the primaries. Don't even get me started on the church/politics thing. Do we really have 16 months before the election? :bang:

Okay...tell me where I am wrong. I am all ears.

Well, what you see, isn't always what you get, even when you are looking at voting records. For example, many politicians voted for the "emergency war funding," which looks good for their record (shows that they support the troops), even though they say they are against the war. What they conveniently fail to tell us is that they voted for the "emergency war funding," not because it funded helped supply the troops with goods, but because the bill was filled with pork, which included millions of dollars of expenditures having nothing to do with the war -- money which went to their political causes, "taking care" of the people who put them in office.

What you see isn't always what you get. In fact, rarely do you get what you see, especially when it comes to the crooks in high-ranking elected offices.

You speak with great wisdom ms kitty.

People, if you get nothing else out of this post, get this one thing...read, research, question and attempt to form your own opinion outside of voting the straight party ticket. They are all trying to fool you and sway your opinion, be informed.
