We live in Dune Allen and we have heard all kinds of loud noises. The other day I heard a number of "bombs" and my whole house shook.
In fact I now have three long large cracks in my tile inside and some large cracks in the concrete on the back porch. Talk about a house "settling"....this is rediculous!
Has anyone else experience these cracks in the floor or around the edges of the house????
I know these noises have been addressed on another thread....but this one was just so convenient. Thanks SGB!

Authorities mum on military maneuvers over Mack Bayou
August 01, 2007
Gwen Break
gwen_break@link.freedom.com Residents of the Mack Bayou are were shaken out of their beds and sent running into the street by a low flying military plane around 8 p.m., Tuesday evening, and then again around 1 a.m. the same evening.
eanine Brock who lives on My Way, said she and her four children were terrified by the low flying plane.
?The lights (from the plane) were shining in my daughter?s bedroom and when it went over the house, my fireplace started whistling,? said Brock.
Brock said she immediately telephoned the Walton County Sheriff?s Office and was told by the dispatcher that more than 100 calls had been received. She was referred to a Mr. Benjamin at Eglin Air Force Base.
?This Mr. Benjamin confirmed it was one of their planes,? said Brock. ?But then he said, ?Well, what do you expect? You knew it was a military zone when you moved in.??
Brock said she and her family had lived in the area several years but had never seen or heard anything like this.
She said after the initial pass, her family went outside as did most of her neighbors.
?You know how sound travels at Buck Bayou. You could here people saying, ?Here it comes again,? when it made a second pass,? she said.
Rick Thomason, publisher of The Walton Sun and Destin Log, said he was watching TV when the low flying planed came over his house.
?It shook the walls and moved the pictures on the wall,? he said. ?I muted the TV and waited to hear the crash.
?Of the 24 houses on my street, probably people from 12 of them were standing out in the street,? he said.
Other people around South Walton reported seeing low flying helicopters near the bay around the same time.
A spokesman for Eglin Air Force Base Public Information Office confirmed there was a test mission in progress Tuesday evening but said Eglin would only have been using helicopters.
A call to Hurlburt Air Force Base Public Information Office was answered by an answering machine.
A call to Lt. Eddie Farris of the Walton County?s Sheriff?s Office also went to an answering machine.
Messages were left for both parties but as of 10 a.m. Wednesday, neither one had returned the call.

Interesting story. Last week, I noticed a few low flying F16s (I think) flying over Grayton, several times. I also notice one of those big@ss battle ship helicopters flying low enough to hit a kite this past weekend. I kind of had an idea that some different training was going on, since that is very uncommon.

Friends of mine call those noises... "The Sound of Freedom."More like the sound of tax dollars being spent. Cha-ching$$$$$ In some parts of the Country, if they pulled that stunt, people would break out the guns to defend themselves. I can't say that I would blame them.
As for the military guy who said that people know they bought in a military training area, I would say he is full of crap. No one told me that when I bought, and I have never heard of the military training so low to the ground over Mack Bayou. Like the Air Force doesn't own enough property north of the Bay for all of that craziness.

Did you feel like you were in Vieques? I guess that's one of the benefits we can look forward to now that some of those missions will be brought to NW Florida. All I can say is those of you with anti-W stickers better watch out, that might have been a reconnaisance mission for future bombing runs  ;-)

There were about 7 passes made between 12:30 and 1:30 by a big plane with 4 engines (C-17?). They were fllying less than 1000 feet above us. The first pass woke me up and we were waiting to hear a crash or an explosion. After the first 4 passes we went out on our dock on Mack Bayou to watch it come around again. It was pretty frightening. I have never heard anything like this. Rick Thomason lives down the street from me. I guess we should have gone out in the street to join the party!

We normally get a good amount of military noise in my neighborhood, but there was something different going on the other night-very large plane very low overhead, and that kind of engine noise you get when they're coming in for landing even though we're several miles from the Eglin east-west runway.

Sounds scary, and do they really need to do that at night?
You want to ask why. but you know they are over there saying,"You Can't HANDLE THE TRUTH!!" with that nasty snarl.
sorry, I couldn't resist.

My husband thinks they were jet engines or turbo jet engines. There was a weird loud whistle with them.

No one ever mentioned anything to me either and I never heard anything until January this year when I was in sowal. It was scary to hear, I thought someone was on the roof.
I didn't think I would hear anything on 30A, but then I spoke to Jdarg in the morning and she told me what was going on.
I just helped with a closing package for my mother who bought a place in Vegas, and ther emust have been about 50 disclosures for just about every possible fn thing, like " You are buying in a Gambling State and may become addicted"
"There are Showgirls here and they wear minimal clothes, I could go on.
Maybe there should be a disclosure like "You are buying in a military testing zone and your ombs might be frightened.
Although it's a bit scary to hear, I do think whatever they are doing may be needed. Afterallthese are the guys who are protecting our bums.

That's also where I heard the quote, "we all call that the sound of freedom." I can't find it right now (it's packed), but it had three boxes that more or less said.
You are moving to an area that is a fly-way for military aircraft and
1. There is a high likelihood of noise and possible risk from airplane crashes
2. There will be moderate risk and low risk from airplane crashes
3. Their will be periodic noise and very low risk from airplane crashes
We were in #3. In our 8 days we have spent there, we have only heard one aircraft and it was just a jet flying over. I hate I can't find it

Well, folks, Eglin is the world's largest air force base...Hurlburt Field is home to the Air Force Special Operations Command, and Tyndall , in addition to its downrange efforts for our security also has a lot of Homeland Security missions..and north of us is Ft Rucker--home to the helicopter pilot training center....and, we are at war!

Possibly has something to do with a joint forces technical assessment exercise that's being run at several bases, including Eglin. At least that's what a quick Google search would seem to indicate.

Maybe there were some underwater specialists swimming around in Mack Bayou and the Bay? Wouldn't that be the only reason for such a large plane to be flying so low? -- To make a drop of equipment or people?

Or maybe reconaissance for anti-W stickers, and Bill Cinton fans. Does anyone REALLY think it's a coincidence that this happened the day a huge block of Sunni's and others pulled out of the fledgling Iraqi government.. :nono1:

The passengers did appear to be from the Clinton Administration. I'm jealous of all of that leg room.

Who knows.
After wading through all the military acronyms and gobbly gook, all I was able to take from the article was this was a test of digital communications systems designed to allow ground soldiers to communicate where they wanted bombs dropped. It appeared part of the test was to ensure the system was able to be used by all branches of the military so I guess the Navy could be involved? Or more than likely, they were searching for anti-GWB material as suggested above.
Maybe they're searching for anybody sinking construction equipment into area waters while operating without a permit?
