OMG!! The heat!! I thought NC would be a bit cooler than Florida, but it was really hot there too. The only relief was in camp this morning- it was 75. Usually I am wearing sleeves in the morning there- not today!
Atlanta was nutso hot, and my car thermometer hit 102 between Eufala and Dothan today.

You too? It's quarter to ten here and it's 90 degrees outside. I know it gets hot in SoWal but at least there's the lovely Gulf...no such luck here.
Sorry Jenny, back to the thread!!!

I will miss you all while I am on restricted computer access. I left no less than three IKEA pieces unassembled and hidden in guest rooms. I had not swept, let alone mopped in days. The computer was hot to the touch and there was a HUGE dent in the beer supply. I am basically a n'er do well in a kilt. Goodbye, sweet friends!
:roll:Clearly, you need to be tutored in how to work it Skunky. Always, always hide extra beer to refill the fridge, and throw your empties away in the neighbors can. It really won't hurt your computer to shove it in the freezer for just a few minutes to cool it off. Then meet them at the door with there favorite beverage, declarations of adoration and how much they've been missed. If further diversion tactic are required.......you're resourceful and will do well in this area. Good luck. :leaving:

I will have a trip report tomorrow at some point. I wish I had remembered the camera- GTTBM and FBB's pool and yard are so beautiful!! It felt like a real vacation at a fancy resort!
Kate had a mini-Christmas moment. We had gone to a pub in downtown Asheville on June 30th, the night before we dropped off Will. The next day, 2 hours down the road, we noticed that Kate's backpack with her books, coloring stuff, Will's Gameboy and games, was gone. We had left it at Jack of the Wood.
It was Will's first "big boy" kindergarten backpack with his initials on it.
I never called 'cause I figured it was just a goner.
Bdarg talked me into going back last night, so we did, and I asked the bartender if they had the backpack. He went through a door, came back out, and walked up to Kate with the backpack behind his back, and it was another moment that I could kick myself for not having the camera- their smiles were both huge! Our sweet server from 6 weeks ago had put it in the storeroom- she knew why we were there when we walked in I think. I will love this place forever!

It's always 74 degrees indoors in Mono Land.

Actually, I'm trying to work a few hours every morning. It was already in the 80s here when I started at 6:15 this morning!
Glad everyone made it home without baking in their cars...

This is scary. I'm so glad I live by myself so I don't have to do these sort of evasive maneuvers!

It will be so wonderful to wake up this morning and see your son in the house...you really can feel them in the house! Glad y'all arrived home safely, albeit a bit lighter in the wallet!!

Welcome home weary girls. What a sweet story about the backpack.
I know you are giving that wonderful server a BIG tip next time through town. We missed you terribly. Kitty is right, you can feel them in the house. Glad he's home safe and sound with you.
Oh and punzy do you need help cleaning up the blood or the disposing of the body?

It's not too late skunky, while she's sleeping you can clean something quietly.

I found this beautiful summer poem and thought it might help make your day. It did make mine, and it's very well written.

Welcome back jdarg and punzy. I am sure you had a most fabulous adventure. Who wouldn't with you two.
Now, jdarg I had a tear in my eye reading the backpack story. I can just see Princess Kates face when he walked in with it. How sweet!!!!
Skunky, skunky, skunky.....will you not learn? You had several days to get your chores done. How long is the restriction? I really think you need to bring punzy breakfast in bed for the next week or so, that should just about make up for your shortcomings.
GTTBM, I really like the way you think. Man, skunky should have called you for advice. ;-)

Only one person on the board will get that....my gracious hostess for the Atlanta stop.
I had a great time. It was fun to see Chupie, the happiest baby in the world, and his brother Little Tis, who is just gorgeous (he has these blue eyes and thick, black, inch long eyelashes) and taught me the song still going through my head over and over....He's the one....he's the one...Thomas the Tank En-gine! It was great to spend some time with them.
I had a moment of homesickness out shopping in Atlanta. There is this whole wonderful area around Huff and Howell Mill with excellent shops. When I last lived in Atlanta you'd not have ventured into the area for love or money, but now it's so funky and wonderful and urban and minimal. Mercifully, I got stuck in horrid traffic Tuesday morning and so I didn't question the decision to stay in SoWal very long.
The cutest thing the whole trip was the actual moment of DargVader retrieval. Most kids that age would stiffen a little when the mom came up and hugged them in front of a table of their camp peers, but DV gave her an equally happy hug and let her go on about having missed her boy for a good two or three minutes before he put a stop to the gushing. J and DV were walking around with matching ear to ear grins so big they crinkled their eyes for the rest of the trip. Such a good mom, such an absolutely wonderful kid....
I give the J-Train 4 1/2 stars. I just wish there'd been more coffee stops.

Jdard train leaving. . . . has a similar ring. Maybe we should hook Jdarg and Motos up so she can learn the nuances of saying it correctly. ;-)
And here is a link to the Thomas song in case you need a fix. Lil' Tis just made me play it 7 times. I'll be singin it for the rest of the night!

We really enjoyed your visit. It was what I needed in the midst of my crazy summer. Please feel free to come back any time you need an Atlanta Fix! Next time we'll have to organize an outing of SOWAL - Atlanta chapter.
