So I thought I was crazy, but I literally was jolted out of bed at 1AM- and I mean sat straight up. My bed was totally shaking and it went on for about 30seconds. I thought I'd just woken up because my BlackBerry had just gotten an email and I was out of it.

I wake up this AM and just have to find out. See below!!!

Aug. 9 (Bloomberg) -- A magnitude-4.5 earthquake struck the Greater Los Angeles area, the U.S. Geological Survey said in an e-mailed statement.

The epicenter of the temblor, which hit today just before 1 a.m. local time, was 45 kilometers (28 miles) northwest of Los Angeles Civic Center and seven kilometers north-northwest of Chatsworth, said the USGS, which measures seismological events.

The quake was felt by people across Los Angeles County, the Associated Press reported. Residents in the Los Angeles area were awakened and some items were knocked off shelves and walls, AP said.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or major damage, AP said, citing Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

That's kind of one of those cool things in nature, though, that I think most people are strangely curious about.
I've always wanted to "See" a tornado, but not BE in one.

Now you can say "Been there and Done that"
I'm glad it was a little one and not a catastrophic one. Be safe out there!

I saw this on the news and I thought of you. :yikes:

I guess there is no such thing as an earthquake party. Not enough prep time, I guess.

We get them here in the East every now and then too.

Must have been scary Kimmi.

I remember in 2002 there was an earthquake 5.1 magnitude that occurred in Western NY and people felt it all the way to Maryland. I was in the shower getting ready for work.

Another time in NJ, I was tinkling and heard a loud boom and the house shook we were staying in on pilings. It swayed back and forth.
Scared the bejeebers out of me.

Beware of the dented cans. Could contain Botulism.

Sounds like a savvy consumer could get the management to knock a quarter off that already low, low price:scratch:

I mean...if it's not one thing, it's another.

My boss in Malibu said the water was under her house.

If we DO break off, am I on the island, or the mainland? Let's hope the island.

I shot straight up in bed. My roommate had stuff fall off the walls. She has shelves mounted on her walls and things started sliding off.

I honestly had no clue what was going on until I woke up this morning!

Funny you should ask. Look at this email exchange-

My email to my friend:
> Um... Was in my first earthquake last night.
> Sent via BlackBerry by AT&T

His response:
>Really? Are you sure it wasn't Jill having an orgasm in the room next door?

My mother-in-law buys canned food from some store down in town where she lives that are bent cans. I'm very leery of eating her cooking. We never buy any dented cans in the store. I've already had food poisoning that has done enough damage and don't need another bout of any kind of it ever again.
