Left Grapevine at about 4:45 pm. Fairly uneventful drive with Baton Rouge as the ultimate destination. It was uneventful until I started trying to follow mr. dd's directions to the motel. After a short tour of BR, we rendezvoused (yes, that's the correct spelling--I looked it up) with mr. dd and his oldest and her boyfriend at 1:30 a.m. Searched for Sunkist's room number for about 20 minutes until a nice security guard pointed us in the right direction. Fell into bed.
Saturday, August 4
Left BR at 8:00. Sat in traffic in Mobile for a while in the tunnel. Kids loved the tunnel. Arrived in FWB around 1:30 pm. Went immediately to the beach. It was a perfect afternoon. Got cleaned up and went to Dewey Destin for dinner and sunset. Good food, good time. Got a dd from BB and Afunn, but I was too beat to join them--dammit.
Sunday, August 5
Beach for a while.Big grocery trip to Publix (my new second home) Shopping in SoWal for a while. Small beach party with some pretty cool SoWallers. Pics to follow. Sunset was gorgeous and the stars were unbelieveable. Thanks to darling Franny and Ralph for hauling our asses back to the truck!
Monday, August 6
Got up with intentions of hitting the beach early after a trip to Publix. Started getting ready at 10:00. Made it to the beach at 1:00. This would become our pattern. I have discovered in my old age that I'm not a real patient person and getting 10 people ready for the beach is a major undertaking evidently.
Came home from the beach and made spaghetti.Went to Wal-Mart for extra pillows. Drank just a tad too much Vodka, but it was all good. Tuesday, August 7
Pontoon day! I wished Jfunn coulda been there with us!
Rain threatened, but never really happened. It was a funn day! Went to Publix. Made chicken enchilada casserole for dinner. Drank vodka. Wednesday, August 8
Gulfarium day for the kids! They loved it.
The men went fishing.
We had pizza for dinner.

Thursday, August 9
Started the day at Publix. Finally made it the beach at 3:00 after starting at noon. Rain came at 3:45....
Got ready for Dune-Ahh's house. Running late, so didn't stop to see Grumpy. Guess it'll have to be next trip. Dune Ahh is a wonderful hostess and has the coolest house. She made a wonderful shrimp boil with some juice that was to die for! And, she made summer beer, which is my new favorite drink! YUM! Saw Cork and her neighbor friend, a couple of Dune-Ahh's friends who were delightful and sweet Franny. Got back to SWB around 1:15. A great night! Mega storm came at 3:30 am. One clap of thunder hit and we all jumped out of bed at the same time yelling--"Did you hear that!!!" Ankles continue to swell. Friday, August 10
Son's girlfriend arrives to help celebrate his birthday. Beach day. Funn. No rain. Kids had a blast with boogie boards. Jackson overcame his fear of the waves and we couldn't get him out of the water! Went to Publix for birthday cake. Shrimp night. mr. dd cooked! Then, birthday cake and some vodka. Ankles are huge.
Saturday, August 11
mr. dd and daughter and boyfriend leave for home. They spent Sat. night in Lafayette. We spent Sat afternoon at the beach. Kids loved it. Didn't wanna leave. Publix called to ask where I was.
Ankles are the size of softballs...
Sunday, August 12
The drive from hell. 13 hours with a 4 year old and a 6 year old. Actually, they were pretty good, but I thought we would never get home! Yes, Miss Kitty, along about Tyler, I started thinking about just getting a motel!
All in all, it was a good week. Ankles are almost back to normal size.
I am re-thinking the family vacation thing though.pics to follow, RO
