The attack of the webworms hit while I was gone. I've been out there blasting the little suckers with a stream of water to open up the webs so the birds can get at 'em. Any other suggestions...I don't wanna use chemicals..

 ...hey Rita! Question... how do you treat a 50 + year old pecan tree???? If I spray it, that stuff will go everywhere!!! :idontno: Are you finding the webworms are worse this year?

Spray some of the leaves that look like they will be in the next area that the caterpillars will likely feed (close to the already eaten leaves?) Spray when it is not too windy in the early morn or late evening if it is cool enough. You don't have to treat the whole tree, but if there are a lot of webs it would be good to get some Bt on several areas. There seems to be at least two periods of infestation. You probably noticed the first in June.

If you clean out one of those outdoor windex sprayers real well and mix the Bt in something like that and hook onto your garden hose, you can get a pretty good stream up pretty high and direct the spray. :idontno:

Give it a try!

Gandpa used to have this huge bamboo pole, tie an old rag around the skinny end, soak it in turpetine, light it and burn those babies!!! Fun to watch them wiggle and squirm as they cooked.

Seemed to take care of them. And he made sure he burned all of the bweb and the area around the web.

I don't know how long the pole was, but to a kid's eyes, probably 100 feet.

By the way dd, do you hate them?:rolling: :rolling:

I just smushed one of them on the bottom of my shoe! I then looked closely at one of three pecans we have and the web is directly over the arbor on the deck. :bang:

 Y'all make me sad. I don't even take pictures of bugs, and that's my job...

You know what bugs I hate? Those spider crickets/cave crickets/whatever.:creepy: They show up in my bathroom, mostly, but they will eat holes in clothes. I'm not making this up--they will go for the most expensive items first: wool, gaberdine, dry-clean-only rayon, silk.

They're really fast, so they're hard to squish. I usually have to drop a shoe from about chest-height from directly above them. I can rarely do it without screaming obscenities at them at the top of my lungs, usually along the lines of "GO BACK TO H377, YOU BATTURD!"

I think I prefer the worm thingies. :(

DD is a genuine sweetheart to inform & educate, as usual.:clap:
