Oxycontin and Drug Company

http://www.cnn.com/2007/HEALTH/07/20/oxycontin.plea.ap/index.html?eref=rss_topstories A very small amount of this oxycontin along with Xanax killed my 44 yr old childhood girlfriend this past Spring. I know in my heart she did not mean to die. I just know it. :( She had an 18 yr old son and a husband. I don't know why she had it, how she got it, where she got it from, anything. I hadn't seen her in years, and was way overdue for a visit. :bang: We were 500 miles a part. Anyhow, she will be missed by many, and I just want to warn people about this drug that is scary, and evidently way more addictive and dangerous than labeled by its maker. When I read this I just wanted to :bang: and  . I am aware it has its uses with terminal illnesses however for other uses it sounds too dangerous, and also like lots of innocent people are dying from it. Just be careful of even prescribed drugs. It seems like everybody is on somethin' for somethin'. GGOM, !!! Isn't it normal to be a little depressed some times? There is a war goin' on with lotsa people dyin'. It's sad. A pill won't fix it. It may make us forget for a while though at the same time, may make us forget the other important stuff in our lives too. To think these big drug companies have lobbyists and cover ups is scary. I'm not tryin' to be too dramatic...I'm just sayin', careful be. :idontno:

When I watch T.V. and every other commercial is a drug dealer/pharmaceutical company telling me to ask my Doctor if blah blah is right for me....it makes me sick....and I'll bet there's a pill for it! It usually seems like the side effects are worse than whatever the newest fad condition is. No wonder we live in a country that thinks there is a pill that will fix everything, including our children who at 4 or 5 years old can't sit still:idontno: Growing up we never saw drug commercials, and certainly didn't even know about Erectile dysfunction until a drug company figured out a way to ....well, nevermind. And I hear those E.D. drugs are WAY available on the street:yikes: Wonder how many men are walking around out there with blurry vision and a tent in their shorts lasting 4 hours or more:floor:
SCK I'm so sorry about your friend and I wish Pharmaceutical Companies didn't have lobbyist & Drs. were really more concerned with their patients as the Hypocratic Oath (is that the right word??) swears them to be.

Just spoke to my dr. this morning about this very thing. I told him it must be maddening to have patients come in asking for TV drugs...like when did they become an M.D.!!! He did say that Britain has banned all pharmaceutical companies from this sort of advertising. I bet that never happens here!

The drug companies tell you to ask your doctor about ... so that the message is coming from an "expert in the field of medicine" rather than a drug company. Unfortunately, after med school, many doctors get most of their latest info on pharmaceuticals directly from the drug reps along with free samples and nice dinners. That type of marketing also makes us consumers take an active roll in seeking info on the drugs, which is a highly-effective method of marketing.

Everyone: if you hate the tv commercials for drugs as much as I do, write your congresspeople..send a letter to the editor of your local paper, and talk to your health care providers about it, and write to the networks...only when enough people protest will anything be done!

The drug companies spend millions of $$ on this advertising...how much better if it went into research and the medical doctors were left to decide what to prescribe for their patients!

Kristi, just curious, what did your friend die from? Was it actually an overdose?:idontno:

I believe it was actually respiratory failure. She was sleeping with her husband.
Thanks to all, and especially to those of you who came on and honestly admitted they too know and love, people who live, and also die, on these very addictive and dangerous perscription drugs. I pray for them to get that mean monkey off their back before its too late for them too.

Grayt points about the ads ya'll, too.
