China sells toxic toys, toothpaste and fish to the USA.....we sell them CDOs full of toxic subprime loans. Sounds like a fair trade to me.

The real ones to blame is corporate America that decided decades ago to outsource to China for cheaper pricing than they could get here in the US. They didnt want to pay a premium price for labor (read:the minimum wages that Americans get + Workmans Comp etc.) and/or supplies, so they decided to go to China. Now they are getting what they paid for. Well....I guess WE are getting what they paid for.

Jodi. You hit right on the mark ! ....and let us forget about pointing Presidential blame, forget Reagan, Bush, Clinton, lil Bush, and future President Clinton.

Until, this country has a "Seperation of Business and Federal Politics," in the Constitution, that would be pointless.

I got the information from the owner of the restaurant who denied him the beer in my presence.

If the Chinese are still using lead paint, and there is an absence of oversight on imports, why do we think that lead paint stopped being used in the US back in 1982?

Thank you Slick Willie, that free trade agreement you signed with China seems to be working out well. He's the reason why we've exported manufacturing jobs to a nation that sells missiles to whomever has the cash, jail political dissenters and pay wages of a dollar a day. Sure seems like a good move now doesn't Bill! Flooding the US market will products that have NO Inspections or oversite. You can't lay this one on W. Although he's done plenty of stupid things too.
Presidential Treaties do not have to be voted on by congress. So everyone be ready for the North American Union. Canada, USA and Mexico under one currency, open borders and free movement of goods and people.

All party politics aside; Bill might have opened the door, but W has had almost 8 years in office and a majority rule in Congress. What was stopping him from rescinding this? It was never on his agenda. He could have challenged the agreement and made changes to it anytime when he saw the problems developing. Why has he ignored it? He and his administration look the other way, and throw the occasional sound bite of concern for us to the airwaves, but it's still happening.

Our government certainly isn't looking out for our interests, wonder whose interest they are looking out for?

Sadly Mattel didn't cut their prices to reflect the bargain they got in China. Have you priced Fisher Price playsets or American Girl dolls. When was the last time the price dropped? They went to China, got the cheaper deal in production, but didn't pass that on to the consumer. Mattel did what every other big business did, increased their profit margin.

To a great extent, I agree. Businesses are the ones who profit from the cheaper Chinese products, and in some of there savings, they should have there own people inspecting the products being shipped to them, with their own name stamped into the products. I enjoy creating things, one item being soap. I took some samples to someone in the industry to get some opinions. The first thing I was told was that if I take my products to market, that I would need to be able to fill the orders, and that there was no way in hell that I could do it at a cost which would sell. I was instructed to bid out contracts to Chinese companies, giving them my specs. While I understand what they were saying, I stopped that idea right there. Without having someone working for me, overseeing the production, there is no way I would do that, especially if the products were being produced oversees, far away from me, where I cannot easily check on them often, ensuring quality ingredient standards. If I have to take on the liability of the products, I want to know, without a doubt, that the proper high-quality ingredients are being used. As hnooe says, the businesses need to be ensuring the quality and standards of their own products, and without doing so, they need to pony up the money when the lawsuits start rolling in.

That is very true today, but it seems like I recall reading that when Sam started the business, he refused to sell non-American made items, and he was still able to turn a profit. Now, it is difficult to find much of anything sold at Wal-mart made in the USA, and I'm not talking about Usa China.

No, YOU sold yourself out! Everything from underwear to toys to produce has a tag that says where it was made/grown so it's easy to make a choice about where you're buying from. Odd, you didn't mind the cheap Chinese goods until you realized you were getting EXACTLY what you'd paid for.
