The body travels more easily than the mind, and until we have limbered up our imagination we continue to think as though we had stayed home. We have not really budged a step until we take up residence in someone else's point of view.

SCK- Is this the Erskine that wrote Tobacco Road? Read it in college-a very disturbing account of the South during the Depression. I guess all accounts of that era are disturbing though.

Good quote-something to think about :D

Probably so, but not sure to be honest. I'll do some research and get back. When I saw it, just thought it might help explain part of the sowal addiction. Is it just a coinkydink that most of us like travelin' too? Sowal is so beautiful, kinda like other's points of view and having a funn place to share them like the bb. Hope that doesn't sound too full of 'it'. I'm just feelin' thankful for this place and my fellow sowalers.

Looks like he was a professor at Columbia University who did write lots of other works.

You never really know a place until you begin to dream in the native language. But it still may be nice to visit.

- In the middle of the night with insomnia, I'm sowalling in my head and mulling over the day, and it dawned on me that the Erskine I was thinking about was Erskine Caldwell, not John Erskine. Funny how things come to you from the depths of your mind in the darkness of the night. :idontno:

It is amazing that there is such a conflict of emotions when you think about the beach. You are so pumped when the trip is scheduled and as it gets closer, the more exicited you get. When you leave it is such a downer to leave this beautiful place. But then once you get back home you start planning your next trip and it starts all over again. Such a whirlwind of emotions.
