What do people think of the new school dress code?
I don't have kids, so I don't know how it is being received, I just know I like that the school is finally making rules so the girls aren't dressing like prostitutes.
I'm constantly amazed at the clothes being marketed/sold to kids! Sad when lingerie from Victoria's Secret has more coverage than clothes for 10 year olds.

Then, after you look to read it, you realize that you are looking at a 14 year old.
That ain't right. ...and just what is "PINK" written across someones butt supposed to insinuate?Edited

I like it. Of course, I have a son, so it's not hard to comply as long as his shirts have sleeves and he isn't
.
For the girls, I like it, as he isn't nearly as distracted as he could be.

PINK is the "junior/fun/cotton" section of Victoria's Secret. I am sure there is a double meaning.
Not a fan of writing on one's butt whatever the age!

We always loved when the girls where in programs with uniforms. It made mornings allot easier.

Since I have kids in high school I think it is great that they have done this. When we got the new principal at SWHS , it was my understanding that he would not allow any midriffs showing, no underwear seen (male or female), No short skirts/ shorts etc. But when picking up my kids everyday I saw more skin coming out of that school that on the streets of Amsterdam. I mean I personally would have never let my daughter in the car to go to school much less out of the car AT SCHOOL if she was dressed like some of these girls. And I SAW parents doing this.Hopefully they will stick to it and not let if slack off like they have the last few years. But even in this first week I have seen mini skirts that dont come ANYWHERE NEAR girls knees. So we will wait and see....

hmmmm......can't remember
I work with kids a lot, and over the years I've found that as much as they will whine and moan about how ugly uniforms are, the large majority of them like not having to deal with clothes choices on a day-to-day basis. A lot of a young girl's day gets eaten up by whether or not she wore the wrong thing that morning...

It's not that radical of a uniform policy- very common sense. No spaghetti straps (which means no tank tops with built in bras - which don't work if the tank top is 3 sizes too small), no sagging pants, no thongs/boxers hanging out- basically, the principal said he doesn't want to see underwear, period.
Jodi, I am with you. Some of these girls are ridiculous. And really- we are trying to teach our teen boys about respecting women and dealing with raging hormones, so how are we supposed to teach them not touch the girls that are advertising their "stuff" on the butts? The parents of the girls that dress this way might as well put their daughters on a silver platter and say "here ya go". As a parent of a boy, this is infuriating.

Unfortunately, look no further than the magazines those girls read. Seventeen, Cosmo, etc.

It's not the magazines, it's everywhere. I read those magazines when I was younger and still know what is and is not appropriate.
I am constantly amazed by the clothes parents allow their kids to wear. If it shows so much skin I wouldn't wear it to a bar or club, why are you letting your 12 year old wear it to school?

Magazines are definitely a part of it, and that includes online magazines. You make a good point though. When you were that age, I bet your parents still controlled what you wore, even though you read those magazines and wanted to look cool, like all of the models. Today's parents seem to go for the path of the least fussing from the kids.

No uniforms at any of our public high schools and only minimal dress codes, like no underwear exposed, etc.
I see lots of boxers exposed as the boys attempt to walk out to their cars with their pants down below their butts. I've even seen a few boys lose their pants while they're walking and carrying a load of books.
But what I find more deplorable than the dress code are the cheerleaders and the pom squad at football and basketball games.
The first game I attended 2 years ago, I almost fainted. These young girls were basically reenacting the moves used on rap videos. I know many of these girls are classically trained in other forms of dance and it's considered an honor to be in the groups. I find it disappointing that they're "entertainment" now. They used to be athletes.

I'm surprised the Cheerleader sponsors for that stuff are not fired. Didn't you hear that "cheer leading" is now it's own sport? I wonder if they will have cheer leaders for the cheer leading squads? The first game I attended 2 years ago, I almost fainted. Try finding a denim skirt in the stores right now that is "legal" with the dress code...you can't! (When standing with the arms to the sides no skirts/shorts can be shorter than were your fingers are) I'm not really knocking it but Sam has some shorts that would be totally appropriate for school but are still illegal. Many kids would take advantage I'm sure. Sam already said last year the cool kids were making it a game...who's going to be sent home today? I still can't get over that they are not skorts!
I love fashion and stay up with the trends but I refuse to let her wear a skirt like that.
Anywho, regarding cheerleading, Sam is a basketball cheerleader and so far they haven't learned any dances. we're going to a football game tonight so we'll see what our cheerleaders do there. When Sam cheered a couple of years ago I had to put a stop to one cheer that I just could not stand. The coach let the girls pick and choose cheers from time to time. Bring It On was a popular movie too but the one I hated went something like this: Don't bite my apple, don't shake my tree, ..... ain't nobody gonna mess with me..all the while shakin' their booty at age 10.

A skirt of the length you describe is still short enough that I wouldn't be able to sit down or bend over w/out giving folks an eyeful! That's still about 12" above the top of my knee and I've got long arms/legs and a short torso so it would be even shorter on other women!
