My kindergartner had one this morning, and it was awful. First time it's happened to me, so I felt like a total rookie. He cried, I came home and cried. I haven't posted any first day pics, so here's his from last week:

I promise you that it was over before you unlocked your car to drive home.

And yes, those tears will rip your guts out.

I told Mr. Pod I'd never had an unhappy kindy kid before, and I'm too old to learn new things. He said I have a lot of new things ahead of me. I'm sure he can't be referring to my high school freshman boy and adolescent daughter.
The tears and the, "But I want you to stay with me all day."

Yes, I bet when you go back to pick him up today, he'll be laughing, happy and won't say a thing about his melt-down. ;-)

Oh, I'm so sorry. It will cetainly be soon forgotten. My #1 told me EVERY day, "I don't want to go to school!" I think that went through Kindergarten and first grade. That was funn! :bang:

Oh poor Pea! Your lil guy looks so happy in the picture from last week, his smile is so sweet. Everyone is right, he was fine before you left the parking lot. But your heart hurt much longer. The school bus driver had to talk Beth onto the bus every morning for awhile. She loved it before long. It will pass for lil Pea too.

I used to tell my dad every day in 1st grade that I didn't want to go to school either. I always got so homesick. He used to tease me that I was going to be a "first grade drop-out."

I emailed his teacher, and she said he recovered fine. She said she'd keep "a special eye on him." I'm feeling better, OL. I was surprised by how much all of it affected me and the rest of the day!

So sorry Pea, they learn early how to play us. At least he didn't say what my cousin said when he came home from his first day of school. He asked his mother, "How can you get fired from school?" Things will get better for you and Little Pea.

Oh Percy...so sorry you had this experience. I am glad lil pea recovered quickly. She must be a great teacher...and your heart will feel better knowing she is keeping a special eye on him. For some kids it must be a very scary thing going to kindergarden for the first time! Each kid is different...thats for sure!

I will never forget the first day I took my daughter to preK. She was so excited and I really figured that there was no way she was going to be one to cry when I dropped her off.

We got to the room, and others were crying and holding on to their Moms, she looked around and ran to me and burst into tears. I am a former teacher and I had taught 8 years before she was born, so I knew when I left it would pass, so I gave her a quick hug and left and did not look by. I cried all the way home.

When I picked her I asked how it went and she said "Great, I love it". So naturally I asked, "Why did you cry"?

With a very serious expression, this was a child that was grown at 3, she said, "I saw everyone else crying and was afraid it would hurt your feelings if I did not do the same."

Needless to say she did not cry anymore after that first day.

Too funny, my younger brother did not ever throw tantrums but he hated school and cried for years. We lived across the street from the school and I loved going so much I would get dressed early and watch for them to open up, so I could be the first there.

My brother hated it so much that during recess he could see our house from the playground, he would sneak off and go home. :rolling:

My Mom would have to bring him back kicking and screaming.

Is your cute l'il pea feelin' better 'bout school yet?    :idontno:
Sometimes it does take a while. My l'il sis used to grab my momma's leg and not let go in kindergarten. Lasted for a little while, at least a few days, maybe a week.
Then later on when we moved from Fl to Ga, as we walked as we approached the school building she would make me hold her hand, and then kiss her good bye in the hall. Don't get me wrong please, I  my l'il sissy but I was 2 years older and trying to be so  in the 3rd grade ya know in the new school. :idontno: Aaah, I always did it anyway.   She's married, works, with 2 school age kids of her own now. It was a separation anxiety thing. Our folks had just divorced and momma had just remarried. Lots of changes when I look back. Anyhow, it only lasted a year or so. Gosh I am talking way too much today but I was just wonderin'.:idontno: I'm also thinking of my own 2 nephews and praying everything's goig fine with my 2 nephews who just moved back with their mom after living with their Dad and grandparents in Fl for several years, and their aunt(hat's me:-) and uncle in Tennessee for a couple years before that. They have had so many changes in their little lives, well, now 13 and 14. They just moved to Richmond, Va this past weekend to live with their mom and new stepdad. I just hope they get as sweet of a stepdad ad I did. They were in south florida and doing good in school. Things just didn't work out with their Dad's job, etc., etc. :bang:
I  those boys and just are praying they are fine and :D . I pray they are not having any meltdowns this week starting school too.

I'm sure a meltdown is heartbreaking, but to have your stubborn little kindergartener walk ahead of you, thru the big double school doors and never look back is sort of heartbreaking too. :(

It is very interesting to watch and see which way your child will go. It's all good by the end of the first week!

Meltdowns, sure. Never had an at-school, starting kindergarten meltdown. None of the other Peas did it, so it was a first for me. He's better this week, so far!

glad to hear he's doing better. when spidey started in his 3-6 year class 2 years ago, he would get out of the car at carpool (practically dragged out of the car by a teacher) and lay on the ground screaming and crying. I had to just drive away. People in carpool felt terrible for him but still giggled at the scene. that lasted for about a week. of course he was only 3 and going to real school. oh, the pressure! so this year, finally a kindergartener (but still in the same class), no real issues, except the usual behavioral stuff here and there.
