neither!

i just got these great reusable shopping bags from ENVIROSAX (envirosax.com). They roll up, so they are really easy to transport. i think they are definitely worth the investment...

how many did you buy? I spend easily $150 each time I go. (I'm sure this is more than you spend. :D ) Are they larger than the average plastic bag? Could I potentially carry 15 of them squashed up in a large tote bag (may as well throw something else in there too  )?

I have been intrigued by the reusable bag idea for some time, but they have to be easy to remember to bring. I know that if I just have four and I save four plastic bags every time, that's a start, but I'm a bit of a perfectionist and would like to make a full effort to adopt this excellent habit.

Thanks for posting sarafunn! I'm very interested in hearing more.

I have one big beach type bag that I try to use. That one bag can hold a lot of goodies if loaded up right! :yikes:

I too am guilty of going shopping without it. :bang: However even if I take it every other time --- it is a start. Right?

I hope to see more people going into Publix with their own bags soon!

Kroger sells one that will hold about twice as much as a regular plastic grocery bag, but it only set me back about a dollar. Here is the website, which lists other stores where it is sold. (Ashley Furniture Stores? I don't think it would hold even my loveseat...)

These have a piece of cardboard in the bottom to make it rigid, but I still think that if you were to buy a dozen or so, they would fold up into one bag.

I use it for a lot of other stuff, too. Because it has the rigid bottom, it's great for carrying snacks in the car for those drives to SoWal. (Little Hop always wants to see what I have in the blue bag!) I like putting shoes in it, too. It even has a tiny little zip pouch in it for my little lemonade packets.

If you prefer not to buy your own bags...

The green containers in front of Publix that look like trash cans are actually recycle bins. They take both paper and plastic bags, as well as styrofoam. They are at both the 395 and western PCB locations. I don't get to the Grand Boulevard store, but I'd imagine they are there, too.

I saw some green ones for $1.50 at Publix. Then saw some for $1.00 somewhere. Maybe it was Kroger cuz it was blue like NoHalls. If it even has a little pocket on it too, I'm just gonna break down and get me some. Wonder if there's any difference between the two? For 50 cents I reckon I could try one of each, and experiment. ;-) :D Grayt 'green' thread, sarafunn.

...but then I would end up buying plastic bags to use for all of the things I use plastic grocery sacks for (I end up running out of plastic sacks before my next Publix trip) and that wouldn't be green either.....

Heck--if you use all those plastic bags, that IS recycling!
