I received a letter today from ATL police department stating that my car was found and is at a wrecker company. What kills me is that it is Friday and the car was found on Tuesday. The ATL police department can not make long distance calls  and so they paid more to mail me a letter  . While I am happy :idontno: I am also frustrated b/c the wrecker company can not tell me anything about the car and the insunrance adjuster probable will not be able to go to see it until next Thursday!

Do any of you Atlantians know where Lithonia is??? Is it and what type of suburb is it? That is where it is located.

Who wants to take a bet if Mr. IBD's mexican blanket is still in the 'lade. What about my ipod?:floor: :floor:

Well this is one of those situations, where the truth might hurt.

We have recovered 2 stolen vehicles and as Hop said its not always a good thing.

Ours sat in the lot for 2 weeks before we found it was there. A friend that works for the police department said go about once a week and look because it takes forever for them to contact you.

For one, here, they take them to the stolen car lot, which is where the wreckers drop them off. And it is a very depressing sight to have to go and claim your car. Most are totally stripped and very few even still have tires. You have to pay the wrecker fee and the fee to the lot for keeping it while no one notified you, which is another reason we kept going out there to search ourselves.

I cried. Many others did too, it reminded me of the car morgue.

I hope you have the exception, but I thought you might want to be prepared for the worst especially since they took it to Atlanta.

Lithonia, is where Stone Mt. Ga the park is located, not really much there except that not really a large residential area.

This might be where their impound lot is.

Where was Mike Vick while this was going on? Glad ya found your ride. In California it's a wrecker scam, they just tow it and the police find it later and the wrecker company charge you some insane rate. Don't take any sheet from the wrecker company!!!!! Another reason to move to Sowal:welcome:

It depends, if the damage if there is any, and there will be some, unless the keys were left in it, which I doubt, they had to break in to steal it. So if the damage is fixable, minus your deductable they will fix it.

If it is in bad shape, depending on it's blue book value they could total it just like in a wreck. It will really depend on the condition of it.

One thing that made us so angry they broke out the window to steal it and then the police let it sit at the impound lot for 2 weeks and it rained in it. If we had known they had found it, we would have recovered it sooner and not had water damage.

And in Memphis, they charge you to tow it, and store it and the storage at the impound lot is per day and outrageous, it is definitely a racket.

I sometimes wondered if the wrecker companies stole them. As no one ever heard my husband's truck start up and it still had the club on the wheel, even though the steering wheel was in the back of the truck. The repair shop said it looked like it had been towed out of our drive.

Yes, that is what we are worried about, what damage has been done. The ATL police dept dropped the ball on this one as it was reported on a sunday but was not put into the system until thursday. On the city of Atl form there were about 10 impound lots that it could have been at so it seems that they do not use just one.

stolen Aug 19 in downtown Atlanta

You bet another reason to be in Sowal, I never feel worried living here.... We said that Vick probably needed a getaway car ....Thanks I will not take a sheet. Our insurance will be going to check it out. I dont want to take a 6 hour ride for nothing....

oh, IBD, I hope it works out okay for you... sorry you have to deal with all this though... no doubt you'll take care of business in your usual efficient and graceful way!

I would go to ATL in a heartbeat if I knew it was ok...I kinda wish it was not found. I feel it has been raped...AIG is my insurance company and i have been very pleased with them so far...

Hope it turns out ok for you, IBD.
it will....;-)

no keys left in it. The lady at the impound lot said that it was not driveable (whatever that means). It was in perfect shape and now, if it was damaged and it has to be fixed it will always be a "wrecked car". :(

Thanks for the responses. I just thought I would post this so I dont have to repeat this over and over... call me lazy.....

I understand exactly how you feel, we felt so violated when we got ours back, I did not even want to touch it. They left some things in it, that definitely need hazmat to remove, gross.

My husband had it detailed after we got it repaired, but it was never the same, as soon as we can, we are getting rid of it.

It has been stolen twice both times, out of our drive, Memphis has one of the highest car theft rates in the country. Lovely.

My thoughts will be with you and wish for the best.

Not driveable could simply mean a busted steering column.

Lithonia is down I-20 just east of the ATL. That is really stupid that the police couldn't call you.:bang:

Mom's car got stolen at a MARTA parking lot in Atlanta. I just happened to be on the way to visit her, so I picked her up at the MARTA station. On the way back to her house, I saw a car that looked like hers on the side of the interstate. I said, "Mom, did you see that car? It looked like yours." She said that she didn't notice it. On a hunch I got off at the next exit, did a 180, got off at the next exit, and retraced our path. All of a sudden Mom started screaming, "MY CAR! MY CAR!" She was running late to work, was low on gas, the thieves ran out of gas, and abandoned it. Yay, me!

A couple of years later my sister was in town and had borrowed Mom's car. She had just returned from 6 months setting up an EDS office in Melbourne. The car was full of all of her stuff. It was parked at the EDS office near the Northside Parkway/West Paces Ferry intersection. Why would somebody steal Mom's car when it was surrrounded by S-classes and other luxury cars? But they did. I offered to drive up and hunt for it -- hell, I had found it once when it had been stolen, so I figured I had a chance to find it again. Unfortunately, it was never found.

IBD, sorry about your car. That stinks. I wonder if you'd be better if if they hadn't found it than if they had?:idontno:

Oh wow, this is horrible. Lithonia has a good amount of residential area- as does anywhere within reasonable distance of Atlanta. Just be glad you weren't in the car. I have had MULTIPLE friends get carjacked. One of my friends was actually killed  - so be thankful it was just your car! Just try and remember it's only material...

All I have to say is- I am glad I moved down here yesterday!!! Off to unpack the Uhaul...

Good luck- and hopefully insurance will cover it!
