Almost killed on Hwy 331.....AGAIN

So listen to this....I live very close to I-10 and work in Santa Rosa Beach. I'm headed south on 331 minding my own business and on my leisurely way to work when six cars passed me (I'm doing the speed limit in a 55 mph zone) and three cars passed in the opposite lane coming toward me. In the rain with no headlights on! I had to fly off the road to keep from getting completely slaughtered. Two other cars went off the road as well with one of them spinning off the road and winding up on the grass facing the opposite direction. It was VERY SCARY. Nobody stopped to make sure anybody was okay.

I'm not saying nothing about nobody, but not one of the cars passing me had a Florida tag.

My family and I have lived in this area for about seven years and every single year - at least once or twice a year- we have had near death experiences on 331. That highway and holiday weekends will be the end of me yet.

Thank God and your lightnin' quick reactions. Glad you made it home alive. Do you think it''s mostly young, inexperienced drivers who also happen to be from out of state? Regardless, glad you made it out alive.

Slow your @sses down, people!!!:bang:

I think Red Rocket's song, "Lord, Please Don't Take Me On That Highway," needs to be the County Song for Walton County and should be played to every person leaving the beach or entering Walton County. Maybe they could set it up where the song would interrupt and override whatever you were listening to on the radio.

There was a pretty bad crash yesterday about 4 pm at 98 and Mack Bayou. Anyone know anything about that?

 ...oh, mrs. rocket! I am so sorry you experienced this!!! This had all the elements of a really bad scene. I have seen my life flash on the 331 bridge...so, thanks for the reminder to take it slow.

it appeared that a minivan going eastbound on 98 went off the right side of the road.... the van actually went up on the cement grider/birdge rail...looked like loss of brakes or swerving off to avoid a car in front....

Mrs. Rocket, that's scary. Glad u b otay. We saw a wreck in the distance just west of 331/98 as we were leaving today. You know, the 10 AM checkout crowd, everyone tailgating, and stop-and-go traffic on 331.

Prayers for you Mrs. R....having to drive on 331. What an escape artist you were!!!! And, it's not just the young people who are the worst.

Yesterday 30A drivers seemed to want to put people on the bike trail. I got pushed into the sand after a car nudged me over trying to get back in after passing me.....then a p/u truck decided it wanted to pull out in front of me and send me into the bilk path. Next a well known local (40 something) coming out of Grayton felled to stop at the 4 way stop cutting the car in front of me off by taking a short cut through our lane to go West! The car in front of me had 2 young children in the back. If that wasn't enough for the day a van pulled out of Sactuary at Redfish in front of a motorcycle leaving him fish tailing and extremely MAD!:pissed: Left me with my heart in my throat.:yikes:

We cannot depend on anyone to slow down, make smart choices, follow the law or dang it....just be courteous. We each have to drive defensively and add caution to that too.

Mrs. R....a few years back my beautiful sister was hit head on by a young man in his 20's as she just turned off 331. He came around a huge dump truck doing 80 mph. He had a suspended drivers license for his second dui and had recently been let out of jail. In his car they found drugs. Her ashes are with the dolphins in the Gulf she so loved.

Safety first!

My deepest sympathy and love to you, Katz. Not only do we have to remember to be careful out there, we also have to remember to take nothing- absolutely NOTHING- for granted in this life.

Lots of hugs,
Mrs. R.
