For the first time ever, Oprah publically endorses a political candidate. As stated in the article, she can turn a book into a bestseller, but in politics, will it make a difference?

I wonder what Hillary said when she heard the news.
Bet it involved the "starts with a B and ends with an H" word!

Oh Kimm, that's too funny...this reminds me of the fact that my son is probably the Pres, VP and Treasurer of the Young Republicans Club at Mizzou!

UNFORTUNATELY, what I see is fairly intelligent women and men on sowal doing a little or more research to decide who to support. Then, I see the lemurs deciding to follow the Oprah crowd off the cliff. In light of the early prognostications, I will offer mine. If Hillary and Obama are the President and Vice President, or VICE-VERSA for the DEM's, the Republican's will win. Thank you for voting and registering to vote but the electoral college will handle it for you.
Skunky
I don't think it matters who the VEEP nominee is. Women didn't vote en masse for Ferraro, Quayle didn't hurt Bush I, Gore was a failed candidate a few times before Clinton/Gore and failed again after Clinton/Gore, Lieberman didn't bring much to Gore, and Edwards has perenially polled poorly during his campaigns. What will Obama do? Get African Americans to vote Democrat?...I don't call that groundbreaking.

I was really hoping Oprah would make a difference for Hillary but she's been singing Obama's praises since he first announced or was it even before he announced?
Did she encourage him to run? Her announcement is no surprise is it, just based on the fact that she's been saying it forever, or is this just her 'official' Oprah announcement now? Oh I get it, it's just the first time for Oprah to do it publically.
Sorry sowalers. You see she probably got me goin' so early partly because of all her excitement.
She's got way more exposure. ;-) She's another smart woman and I do
her, but I sure wouldn't vote for her as President, like some people were saying. She's not even a lawyer like Hillary as well as an experienced and trained politrikion. Gosh...

? would Oprah endorse Obama if his skin color was different?
Does she support him based on his credentials or his race? Sorry, but I think that she is playing the race card, not the skills and abilities card.
Sad.

To me, the worst part is that the election has nothing to do with issues and morals and ethics and whatever else you can fill in the blank with. It has become a popularity contest that has NOTHING to do with politics. I'm pretty much fed up with all of them and find it all quite boring.
We need someone to come a ridin in on a white horse and save us all!!!!
Where and who is this person?????

People think of it as saving time and concern. Surely, Oprah or Rush must know what they are doing, and since people think that Oprah or Rush are cool, it is an easy decision for them. Those people are not thinking for them selves anyway and if not following a celebrity's choice, they will look to other family or friends who they like and vote like them.

I see your point but your VOTE is the only tool John Q. Citizen has to voice his or her OWN opinion, not someone else's. I just wish people would get more involved and inform themselves instead of blindly voting for someone cuz momma and daddy are...I didnt feel this until I turned 40 though...

They don't realize or care that the Fox is guarding the Hen house.

The problem is exactly as stated: People do not (cannot, same net result) think for themselves. Their lack of understanding of the BIG picture is amazing. IMHO, because they do not read, think, understand, they then tend to identify with people of so called promenence (Highly advertised).
While Oprah has done a lot of good for a lot of people, I wonder how much she would have done if there were -0- publicity. Not doubting her motivations, but.............
On the other hand, politicians have almost universally proven themselves to be scoundrals, theves, liars, cheats and worse. So what do we do? The players in today's game SUCK, but this is still the best system in the world today. Tomorrow, who knows.
We all have to get involved, do what is right and then take the heat for doing so. Not funn, but the alternatives are gruesome at best.

What makes you think this? I've read your quotes before and you don't strike me as someone so simple minded. What I am hearing from you is-
Oprah is a person of color. Obama is a person of color. Oprah has never endorsed a candidate before Obama. Therefore, it must be because of color.
Presuming you are male, this wouldn't be all that different than someone saying you are going to vote for Giuliani or Romney over (say- Hillary, for instance) because being male you clearly went for a male...
I have no idea why Oprah feels so strongly about him. And I will leave my own politics out. But maybe just maybe Oprah heard him speak and was inspired- he is pretty charismatic and articulate. Maybe just maybe she thought Hillary would leave the country more polarized than it is now (despite her intelligence, experience and the fact she is a woman).
I was surprised no one else called you on this so I guess I am doing it.
Do you have some evidence or reasoning to suggest that Oprah is endorsing Obama based on phenotypical traits?
If not then, quite frankly, it wouldn't be a stretch for one (not me) to conclude your comments were racist...
Your turn...

polarized, schmolderized Is this a new word made to bash Hillary. I never heard it used until she stepped up to the plate. To me lots of the candidates are very polarizing. After watching OJ get off and the positive reaction by many black Americans or would you prefer Afro-Americans it really made me second guess. Even my best black friends at work were all cheering aloud. I was truly  . Did they witness something different? No it was more about him being a black sports hero with big bucks not about all of the evidence against him; and also about a black person getting off when so many have been falsely arrested and discriminated against in our history and still today. Many others, including women, white ones too, are discriminated against daily. That's why I would not be surprised if that was the only reason ( I hope there's more than one, but does it matter), and that's her right if that's why? I am NO one to judge even if that IS the reason. It's Oprah's right. I didn't find that question racist. I found it honest and brave to ask that openly, and I'm glad you responded openly and honestly as well. Okay, I hope you now don't feel the need to call me racist. Oprah pointed out on her show a lot of us have black blood in us too.
Black is beautiful. Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world, yellow, black and white, they are precious in his sight.

I think it's a good word to make the point that it is common to either really love or really hate the Clintons.

Kristi, pls reread my words because I tried choosing them carefully. I didn't call anyone a racist. And like you, I do not find the question racist either. I agree that it was a fair and provocative question.
I said, "Do you have some evidence or reasoning to suggest that Oprah is endorsing Obama based on phenotypical traits? If not then, quite frankly, it wouldn't be a stretch for one (not me) to conclude your comments were racist..."
I'm asking for seaside2 to explain why he/she said,
"Sorry, but I think that she is playing the race card, not the skills and abilities card. Sad."
If this is the position for no reason at all then, well...
