One of my puppies has been missing for a week. The other one has whined all week and stayed inside a lot. Well this afternoon Sweatpea appeared!Yes, I'd called neighbors and rode around with no luck. Sweatpea roams and I live on 80 acres with a pond through the woods.
Anyway,I believe she has been snake bit!!!!!!!!!!One side of her face is all swollen her mouth is deformed amost like thats where it happened. She probably grabbed the snake with her mouth as I think about it.
One of my sons is on the way over to take her to the vet. I get sick when I look at it. How lame is that??
I'm nervous so thats why I typing this I guess> I'll get back when we get back from the vet. (I've already called ahead)

Good luke to sweatpea. That happened to ours once but it was bee stings. Hope all is well

That's a shame to hear! :cry:

I know it could be anywhere given the size of your land, but perhaps the best thing you can do right now is to try and locate the (hopefully dead) snake so the vet can help ID it and proceed with any anti-venom, if necessary.

Edit: i see it's been missing for a week. If so, I wouldn't think the bite is lethal considering the pup made it back. Keep us posted!

I wish Sweet Pea the best. It really could be anything; since dogs like to sniff whatever they see their faces are good targets. Mine eats a lot of wasps and bees and depending on where he is ultimately stung can look pretty bad. Good luck....keep us posted.

I'm sure Sweet Pea will be fine. If she's back after being gone a week, that's a good sign. I've been through a couple of snake bites wth my dogs; one needed anti venom (it was a diamond back) and the other just needed intravenous fluids to flush the kidneys (that was a pygmy). It's scary and they look pathetic but, if necessary, the vet can help.

Thank ya'll for asking about my Sweetpea .Yes she is a tuffy and looks awful. THe vet gave her 2 shots and 2 kinds of pills. She was wagging her tail bless her heart. He also said there was a lot of internal blood in her. I have her back at home and she has eaten some special can food he sent. I'm to call him at noon tomorrow.
I think maybe she got bit earlier in the week and just now could get home. She bird hunts like crazy and darts through the woods like a deer.She is a stray picked up as a baby on the road and seems to be tough.
She really has been good company to me and a great babysitter for my young bassett hound.
