Good Gravy! Do these people HAVE brains? The amount of time and money wasted on this kind of sh@#$.

Banning Thomas Aquinas and biographies of Popes is definitely the best use of our prison system's time.

Frankly, I don't care if the criminals don't have a wide variety of books to read, but this is SUCH a waste of time and resources. Banning books........:pissed:

I REALLY want to know who came up with this list and what their criteria was!

If you want a good WTF?!? moment choose a category and look at some of the "banned religious books".

I can't decide if my favorite "subversive" text in the American Indian category is the art book on Pueblo pottery, the atlas that shows the original locations of the tribes, or the Tony Hillerman novel.

Holy guacamole, we have a winner - they banned the movie "Hidalgo"!

Whoops, misread - these are the ACCEPTABLE books, not the banned ones. Far less entertaining.

I think someone in prison needs to be able to read and grow. We have many people that have turned their lives around. I know a man that killed his wife and will spend the rest of his life in prison. His children have forgiven him. The in-laws even visit. He now works with other prisoners and helps younger men everyday.

I am all for education as part of the rehabilitation process, but also think we need to prioritize. Based on the lists of APPROVED books, an inmate can still get better learning materials than many schoolchildren.

We spend $20-30,000 a year per criminal! It would be cheaper to give law breakers college scholarships than send them to prison.

I'm persuaded that some slaves are treated better than our criminals! I think it?s a shame to ban religious books from prisons. And, I just wonder how many of those inmates are really criminal?

It's almost like we want them to be punished or something........poor little murderers and rapists who are being treated badly .

I'd be all for reduced sentences for non-violent criminals (volunteer basis to keep complications down) who would then do chain-gang type public works projects. They could be repairing/cleaning/rebuilding our country instead of sitting in a cell and wasting our $$$.

Some get caught quickly, some don't! Some are pushed in a corner and poked, some aren't! I know quite a number of folks in leadership that should be there, but just haven't gotten caught yet! Some others that didn't fight hard enough to get out! I agree that they should be doing something constructive, not sitting around wasting tax payers dollars, but then why would they need all those new buidings and oh yes, all the jobs that go with it? Some communities would collapse without the prison, no place to work. So, are you sure that they don't just want to fill them?

Given the overcrowding/overpopulation of the current prison system, I REALLY doubt they are arresting and convicting people just so that the wardens can stay employed - as you pointed out, you know of folks who should be imprisoned, but haven't been yet, and there are huge backlogs in almost every courthouse in the country.

People unemployed because we don't have enough criminals to fill our prisons - what a VERY sad day that would be!

The folks that should be imprisoned haven't gotten caught yet, or they are in too high a position! I just wonder...? Are you completely sure that everyone who is in prison should be there? Or maybe we have a society problem? As a nation, are we creating criminals?

I own low income rentals and deal with these situations often. There are those that are on the edge, and someone being kind can make a world of difference.
