 I just recieved a letter from the lovely City of NO. It is a letter stating that they are sending me to collections b/c of an unpaid parking ticket.??:idontno:

Problems Here:
  • the address that they sent the letter to I I have not lived there in over 3 years. The mailman just happened to put the letter in my mailbox. (As many of you know I have had some major problems with the mail lately.) The letter stated that they have sent me numerous letters??? I never received any:angry:
  • The letter states that I have one parking ticket but the city of new orleans website states that I have 2??
  • I never saw a parking ticket on my car and did not know that I was parked illegally. (didnt see signs, etc.) I have seen people walking down streets and pulling the tickets off cars so maybe this happened to us, twice???
  • the car that we were in has never been registered at the old address so I dont know why they used that one.
  • now what to do, contest? What BS this is. :pissed:
I have received tickets in the past and have paid them, but this just irks me. Seems like a scam for the city to get $$!!! These tickets total around $200.

Advice please........

Send a certified letter with delivery confirmation requesting a copy of the tickets. If they ignore you they probably have no record of the infraction; if they send you a copy and it is within the statute of limitations (not sure what that is), you ought to pay up to keep your credit clean. If they turn it over to a collection agency, you then make sure to send in a certified letter with delivery conformation demanding the collection agency provide you a copy of the tickets. By law, a collection agency can't collect a debt they can't validate, and validation means they need to provide some proof you owe the debt.
