Friends from here were in Sowal last week. I sent them with a list of where to eat, what not to miss. I didn't realize they were going with the inlaws, so I found out today the inlaws were less inclined to follow my restaurant advice. They went to Borago one night, the father-in-law looked at the menu and declared it "limited," and they left. So, says I, where did you go instead? She pauses and replies, "Goatfeathers."

Smiling Joe and I were discussing similar issues yesterday while enjoying our lunch at Fabrice. We came to the conclusion that some folks aren't happy unless there are fries, tartar sauce, and chicken fingers on the menu.
I just came to the conclusion that we sound like snobs.

Yum! Sounds good to me! My favorite was Chapmans' Restaurant, when the Chapmans owned it. The best!

Where is Smiley today? How will he ever log another 20K posts if he takes days off?

I think a lot of people haven't had a wide range of experiences with different kinds of food, so they stick with what they know. Plus, most of us eat the food we were fed growing up, so depending on the cuisine you grew up with, your taste buds are trained to like different things.
I once had someone tell me they didn't like lobster.............turns out that Long John Silver's was the only place they'd ever had lobster and for some reason it wasn't that good!

My in laws (the ones that I had at one time) would rather eat at Ryan's or Shoneys than any place that serves culinarly delictable food...I think it is the "old" thing

My parents are the same way. God love 'em! But they can both cook. It's not French demi-glazed stuff, but it's yummy.

We sound like snobs on a lot of things...I like to think we are sad for those who are too fearful to try new things.

It's not necessarily an age thing - my grandmother would go hungry rather than eat at a restaurant like that! I think the closest she's ever come to eating "fast food" is a sandwich from the Wolfgang Puck in an airport!

We're drinkin', but it is unsweet tea for me, with a lot of lemon.
