MANgo and I are swapping chores today.

Does anyone know how to do an oil change on a rider mower? :idontno:

I told him that he won't be able to sowal since he's not that savvy on the puter. He says he is going to call Daddy-O for help. Also, he said he wants that avatar. The one with the pony tails and the funny teeth.

Supplies Needed:

*High Quality SAE 30 weight motor oil (consult manual for what type you need)
*Container to collect old oil (milk carton or can)
*Paper towel to wipe dipstick

Remove spark plug wire

1. The first thing you need to do is drain the fuel tank. You can either let the gas run out while you are mowing or siphon it out.

2. Disconnect the spark plug wire and keep it away from the spark plug. This is for safety purposes.

3. Pull out the dipstick and tip the mower on its side to drain the oil into a container. The simplest and cleanest oil change is by tilting your mower on its side to drain the oil from the top. If your mower comes equipped with side or bottom plugs, you can drain from there as well. Allow ample time for the oil to drain.

Tilt your mower4. After the oil is drained, place the engine level again. For our unit we need to add about 18 oz. (or 0.5 liters) of new oil. Fill the tank to the FULL line on the dipstick. Avoid overfilling your oil tank. If you accidentally put in too much oil, turn the mower on its side again and drain a little, then recheck the level on your dipstick. Repeat until you have the desired level.

Things to Remember:

Never tip your machine with the carburetor or spark plug down. The oil will saturate the air filter and cause hard starts or cause the mower not to start at all. If you do accidentally contaminate the air filter, it will need to be replaced. Drain the oil through the dipstick tube into a container. Allow sufficient time for all oil to drain. Dispose of the drained oil properly.

:floor:OMG, BB, you would be happy. I greased something and the color was pink. We could do this.

Although, y'all do not want to know where the gas goes in. It's under the seat on a John Deere.

Back to mowing up leaves.

You'll need a socket drive because the drain plug is underneath. Straight 30w is usually the choice SAE30....do not buy the non-detergent variety. Find the location of the drainplug online with the pdf owner's manual. Wear latex gloves, and make him get take-out afterward.

I don't know, I just remove the oil cap, and then remove the bolt underneath, careful to remember to have something there to catch the oil! Let it drain out, then replace the bolt underneath and fill it again with oil. Not so difficult actually. Why do you have to remove the fuel? :idontno:

Pick up the phone,

call the lawn service

tell them to cut the grass.

Get glass

Fill with ice

Fill with bourbon

Sit on the porch and watch them cut the grass.

Drink bourbon.

Yes, and I have pics!

I blew leaves into the woods, then mowed up the excess.
We have a catch bale on our mower, so I had to make stops to empty them occassionally.
I have done this work before.
MANgo is particular about the grass mowing, so he prefers I do not do that.
(even though I know his formula and where to pick up the blade so I don't scalp it)

I even cleaned the mower when I was finished.

I did do the oil change under MANgo's supervision because he was concerned about me lifting the rider mower.

While I was doing the lawn cleanup, MANgo did my job of picking the leaves out of the landscape planting. He didn't like it much, and I gave him a B- for his work. He prefers when I do it. I actually enjoy it. It relaxes me. Oh, I made him decorate the exterior with the Halloween decorations. :floor:

It was a interesting day.
