We will be at the beach over New Year's Holiday. Any suggestions on what temperature we should ask the owner's to heat the pool to? Just not sure what to ask for. Thanks for your help.

We don't heat our pool that time a year -- it's just too expensive, and I don't care if you turn it to 85 degrees, it doesn't get comfortably warm. It also takes days for it to warm up. This is true even during spring break unless we luck out and are there when days and nights are warm. During the winter months we just use the hot tub because even if it's in the thirties outside, it'll crank up to 100 degrees in 30 minutes. With the hot tub, we turn the heat on when we are using it, so it's not running continuously and wasting natural resources.
I just looked at our gas bill for October. It was warm then. We heated the pool to 85 degrees for 3 days, and the bill was about $17 a day. I'd guess to set it to 85 degrees in late December would cost about $35 a day, and it won't hit 85. A smaller pool would obviously heat more efficiently and use less energy.
But if you are looking for a temperature, I'd say 85. Have fun!

We set our pool heater to 86 for our rental guests. That's the standard with our management company.

Depend on the weather temps, but you may not want to go in the pool, even heated. Last year we had our pool heated in our development and no one went in at all. We are not heating it this year because it's a large pool and like BR said, takes time to heat up, and with the current gas prices it is too costly.

We are paying for the pool to be heated so I thought I would get an idea of a temperature to ask for. I used to ice dive in Lake Erie when I was younger so anything over 72 degrees is like a bath for me. I am usually in the pool at home once it hits 70 when we open it in the spring.

My daughter and I swam in our pool a couple times last week, and it was a refreshing 67 degrees. It's now dropped down close to 60. So unless we get some real warm days, we're probably done swimming til spring.

I closed up our pool last week. This past spring I installed a solar heater for my wife so she would use the pool more. She won't go in unless the temperature is in the low 80's. Up until the middle of October, the temperature was in the low 70's so I got in a few dips after my workouts. It was very refreshing.
