I HATE, HATE, HATE to send Xmas Cards. I never understood why you need to send one to some people you speak to frequently. Seems silly, and if I get one that has been pre-printed with the family name on the bottom and the Word mailing list in the computer, WTH? why bother.
Ridiculous. If someone is going to send a card, it should be from the heart and a hand written greeting should be in it or at least signed by the sender.
Off Rant.
I'm a bit of a purist and I agree with you almost all the way! We are of the age where we send cards w/ photos of our kids (or our family, if we have it all together, which we usually don't). I do send cards to people who see us frequently and know what our kids look like, just so they know we are sending them warm holiday thoughts. I always at LEAST handwrite their names at the top, kids' names too, pets if we can remember.
People I don't see, I always try to write a personal note of at least a paragraph or two, sometimes more. I never write long newsletters but I was thinking of doing a funny poem this year with some of our highlights (hubby's Ironman) and foibles (Katie's broken leg

) included in our yearly wrapup. I usually get caught up in writing long notes to people I don't see and then getting to "S" and giving up. Our card list is very long now and it is a project! Although a lot of the S-Z people hate us now, so maybe we should drop them. Or write even longer notes.
