His name was Dr. Robert Cade. He was a kidney specialist who coincidentally died from kidney disease. We heard him speak at many banquets at UF, talking about how he invented Gatorade to help the UF football team survive football practice in the summer heat. I read somewhere that UF makes a royalty off every bottle of Gatorade that is sold.
He also had a very effeminate voice to the point of being humorous -- always when he started talking, people would giggle.
Dr. Cade. I wonder if they will stop running that great Gatorade commercial about the Swamp with Keith Jackson and Dr. Cade? It's a classic.
Gives any good Gator the chills.
if the guy on man vs wild can drink his own urine, i guess the people who like gatorade shouldn't complain, huh ?
That's the one thing I will never forget about that movie. Too bad it was the very first scene.
I can't remember anything else about that apopalyptic (sp?) tale.If money is going to UF with each purchase of Gatorade, I'm switching back to the funny tasting PowerAde products. Go DAWGS! woof, woof.new product idea....dawgade, tastes like.........victory.....and dawgpee
I just thought it was so odd that he died from kidney disease.Oh, yeah, I love that commercial!

Of course, this is interesting, although I've never heard this before...Hey, you snooze, you loose.

Actually, this story has been going around for some time. There is no evidence to prove its validity. Also, athletes have been chewing salt tablets and eating high potassium foods such as bananas for a very loooong time to replace electrolytes in the body. It is not a new concept. UF got the patent, and they have made so much money off the deal that Dr. Johnson would have sued for rights. I am like many others out there and gonna call BS on this one. (I know you are a big fan of FSU and I respect that, but my money goes to UF every semester along with Offspring #1)Hopefully we, too, will have another family member at UF, our daughter who plans to move to Gainesville to be a grad student at UF next fall.

No problem; like I noted, I had never heard that before. That little snippet was courtesy of some buddies in Tallahassee.
I'm still having issues with the mental image of the same company that produces G'Ade also canning Van Camp's Pork and Beans. That sounds like a pregnancy craving from hell.

No disrespect intended BTW.Edited

The original yellow and orange flavors are nasty, but some of the newer g'ade products are actually pretty good. The blue ones and the "frost" products aren't bad at all.
Obviously, we use Powerade but Coca-Cola needs to get with it on some of the flavors.
It is sad to learn of Dr. Cade's passing. The development of sports drinks in general is a pretty amazing story.
Like Mike Tyson? No. Like when you wanna laugh, but it's inappropriate, so you just bite your lips shut to avoid embarrassing whomever might be embarrassed.
I think Gatorade is the nectar of the gods, and nothing tastes better than the original two flavors when I'm sick. When I'm not sick, I love the new grape flavor and whatever all those "rain" flavors are. (There's a lime, strawberry, lemonade...I don't remember right now.)Well, Dr. Cade was a nephrologist. He obviously knew all of this.
The lady who trained me for the marathon(s) swears by it, too. Sorry, SJ--PowerAde doesn't have the beneficial properties. A lot of people criticize Gatorade for the sodium and sugar, but your body loses sodium and sugar when you exercise. You need it back. And water can be dangerous--you drink a little bit of water, and your brain says, "Okay--you got me some water and I'm good," but you really need more and you dehydrate. You drink too much while your body is in high gear, and your liver says, "Hey, I'm busy, so I'm gonna just explode now. Thanks for the life, but we're done here."
Gatorade is perfect. I'm surprised it doesn't grow on trees or something.
