If I had the power I would.

Snowbirds + Rentals + Tropical Storm/Hurricane = Ungodly bad combo.

Special tropical disturbance statement
1100 am EST Mon Dec 10 2007

Satellite images and surface reports indicate that a closed surface circulation has developed in association with the broad area of low pressure now centered about 200 miles east of Puerto Rico. Shower activity with the low remains disorganized...however...with the strongest thunderstorms located a couple hundred miles north and northeast of the center. While a tropical or subtropical cyclone could still form during the next 24 hours...upper-level winds are expected to become gradually less favorable for development over the next couple of days. Regardless of whether the low develops further...it could produce heavy squalls and gusty winds of near gale force across the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico later today and tonight as it moves westward or west-southwestward at about 20 mph. Heavy rains over Puerto Rico and Hispaniola could cause life-threatening flash floods and mud slides...and interests in these areas should continue to monitor the progress of this system.

I think we're about to revoke the name "Lake Lanier." The Chattahoochee, the Chestatee, and Wahoo Creek are still there, but not much of a lake.

Don't get me whining again. Maybe we'll have a merry, rainy Christmas!

I hope they can find a use for all of those dry docks on Desert Lake.

I hope they can find a use for all of those dry docks on Desert Lake.

There's good and bad in all of it, I reckon. The people with sailboats on the south end of the lake had to rent cranes to take their boats out because the marinas had let the docks out as far as they could and there was a risk of damaging the keels. I have a lot of clients who have let their docks out as far as they could go--most folks have taken the boats out already, even the ones on lifts.

But the good news is that more dock repair and shoreline work is being done. We have shore sweeps most weekends here and in the county next door. There has been talk of dredging some of the coves, but I don't know if the Corps of Engineers is going to cooperate...

Oh, lordy--here I was about to go to bed.

Dredging is another one of those bizarre issues up here. Since the lake was filled, there has obviously been a lot of construction, which causes erosion, which puts a lot of silt in the lake and makes it shallower in places. At one of the big parks on the lake, there was a stink about ten years ago because the homeowners on the other side of the lake wanted to dredge--their docks were sitting on silt instead of in the water. They bought LAKE lots, not swamp lots.

Then the tree huggers got all upset because dredging would destroy the habitat of the marsh life that had come in to that cove since the silt had built up. So then the question was, Do we destroy the marsh habitat to restore the lake?

My brother pointed out that the marsh habitat had destroyed the fish habitat in that cove. And I pointed out that the marsh and lake habitat had destroyed the cow habitat which had existed prior to 1954.

So, no, the dredging wouldn't cause more rain, smart-aleck. (Unless of course it works on the same system as washing your car or planning an outdoor wedding reception.) But it will create deeper channels for the 6 gallons of water left in the lake--I've been over at least 3 bridges in the last week that used to have boats under them. Now you couldn't float a cork in the water that flows there...

I guess it'll be easier to figure out where the fish are located.

most courses pump from their own lakes which are filled with nitrates. Some will also pump reclaimed water, but not many, because it smells a little funny, and people are often getting sprayed by the sprinklers.

My bf used water from the well at his former course. So my ? is, is the water coming from lanier? I would not think so. The sprinkler spraying on people shouldn't be happening.:nono1: That's uncalled for. There are ways for that not to happen.

Just the sprinklers on the greens when the heat of summer bakes the greens.
