The last day to change your party affiliation for the Florida Primary is December 31, 2007. Does anyone know if the offices will be open on the 31st? Florida is a closed primary state, so if you are not registered in the same party as the candidate you would like to vote for you will need to change your party affiliation.

On top of that, in WC most races are decided in the Republican primary so if you want to decide local politics there is really only one choice.
As for local offices, I believe they are open on the 31st, but not Jan 1. Maybe someone can chime in for sure.

I just spoke to the office and both locations are staying open until 5PM to accomodate changes on the 31st.
If there are only Republicans running for a local office, the primary for that office becomes Universal and everyone can vote. This was an election reform passed a few years back so people would not have to change parties just to get to vote in a local election. But again, politricks rears its ugly head as people are placed into races to close primaries off from the other side. Presidential preference is closed.

JK. Actually I'm thinking about voting for Hillary, the first time I've voted for a Democrat in my entire life. I think everyone in the US of A should be able to get affordable health insurance, regardless of pre-existing conditions or whether or not s/he has ever been on antidepressants, for goodness sakes. I think Hillary is the only candidate who really cares about that issue.
Convince me otherwise. I want to make an informed decision.

I wish I could express how strongly I feel about wanting Obama to be the Democratic candidiate for president and the next president. We, as a country, need a new voice. I will refer you to a couple of links.
The first is of a speech Obama gave in Iowa this morning. He hits on all the reasons that I feel that Hillary is NOT the candidate that we need to win this election. She is a candidiate whose views and policies link her to an era in politics that I can only hope is over. One in which corporations and detached politicians run this country and divisiveness keep anything from being accomplished.

The second link is to an article written by Andrew Sullivan, a writer for The Atlantic magazine. He looks at the differences between Clinton and Obama in a historical perspective.

Hope you read and maybe reconsider.

If you are in Walton County call 892-8112 and ask them how they can assist you. I am sure that they can get it worked out.

I changed and had to fill out a form and sign it and show identification.

Your last statement is really puzzling. What is it that you are trying to get us to infer from this? I personally know each and every one of the individuals in that office, and have known them for years. Yet when I went to vote absentee the other day, I had to show them identification.

I thought you would infer that momof2kids probably couldn't change party affiliation without going in person.
As to the second sentence, well,

Don't vote for Hilary just based on health care. Not only did she make a HUGE mess of it when she tried to revamp it back when she was First Lady, but campaign promises rarely turn into reality. Far better to elect a good president and a good leader and become an activist for health care reforms if that is what you truly care about.

I am serious about the health care issue. I know many people who have been on antidepressants that can't get health insurance. If they get a serious illness, they will be bag ladies.

My concern with health care and politics is: Why do we think the government can fix it? What have they ever been able to fix? Just wondering....

I changed from Libertarian to Republican so that I can vote for Ron Paul. For me, he is the only choice.
